Waitlisted at Chapel Hill

My son was wait listed at UNC Chapel Hill. Anyone have any idea what his chances are getting accepted from the wait list????

Your S can ask his HS college counselor about his chances of getting off the waitlist and if it truly is your child’s 1st choice, let the counselor know that. He can also submit an update of things he’s done since his application, showing why he’s especially deserving of admission.

Jackesq, check the unc-ch discussion forum (click on the “colleges” tab on the left of this page). There is lots of discussion there that might interest you/answer some questions.

My daughter was wait listed from U Washington yesterday. It was her num 1 school choice. The letter she got explained that of course there are no guarentees, and went on to explain in 2008 300 students were eventually accepted off the wait list and that in 2009 1350 were accepted off the wait list. I took this as hope because I believe the large number of students who declined the UW offer in 2009 was due to the economic down turn and choose community college, it hasn’t exactly turned around so I’m thinking this year the number will be part way inbetween those 2 figures. Again its wishful thinking.

The advice to check out the schools forum is a good one, I’ve found alot of information there.

Must be Waitlist week at Chapel Hill! Several of D’s friends were waitlisted - including one of her friends that we thought would definitely make it in!.

It’s highly variable. Last year only 4 got in from the wait list. The year before 483.

You can check past years here. (Line C2 on the common datasets)
