Waitlisted at CMU-SCS, money questionable, select priority waitlist?

I was unfortunately put on waitlist at Carnegie Mellon's School of Computer Science. Now, I can pick regular waitlist or priority waitlist.

Obviously, going on the priority waitlist will increase my chances of admission, though it is far from guaranteed. However, on regular waitlist I will likely have very little if any chance of admission, if at all.

Here's the problem. If I get admitted from priority waitlist, I will be expected to enroll. It's not unlike the agreement of an early decision application. The estimated aid package for me, including loans and everything, still leaves about $25,000 for me to pay. That's a lot, and it's questionable that either my parents or I can find the finances to send me to CMU.

Should I sign up for the priority waitlist, even though it means I do so knowing that I may have to turn it down for financial reasons? Also, can somebody give me the chances of admission to CMU-SCS for regular and priority waitlist?

How do you sign up for the priority waitlist? I was waitlisted for SCS too. Did you get in ECE?

I got wait listed as well but it says I’m not being waitlisted for SCS, which was what I applied for. “Unfortunately, we do not anticipate any wait list openings in Electrical and Computer Engineering. As a result, your name has been placed on a waiting list for the other departments in the Carnegie Institute of Technology.” Are you sure you’re being waitlisted for SCS?..

“We have also reviewed your application to Carnegie Mellon’s School of Computer Science for Fall 2013. Because of space limitations and the large number of students who are interested in the School of Computer Science, we are unable to offer you admission at this time and have placed your name on our waiting list”

How do you get priority waitlisted?

@SuperGenericMan you apply only to one school in CMU. People, I don’t need questions I need answers!

If you cant afford to go there with the fin aid package they offered you I would not pay to be on the priority waitlist.

u dont need to pay to be on the waitlist. U just commit to enrolling if ur accepted (as OP said)…l…

Make sure that you CAN get out of the binding agreement for Priority Waitlist based on financial reasons. I know that it works for the ED agreement but its best to make sure. It’d be a shame if you cant get out of the agreement and end up losing your back up college’s offer because of it. I doubt that they will let you get out of the agreement seeing as that’s the whole POINT of the priority waitlist.

With that said, if you can get out of the binding agreement, go for Priority.

Personally I got the choice for priority wait list as well and I’m waiting for Ivy day before I make my final decisions. Plus I’m getting most of my financial aid packages late because of stupid citizen verification stuff, so I don’t even have the Carnegie Mellon financial aid award package yet but basically I’d say unless you know that out of the schools you applied to, Carnegie Mellon is THE school you want to go to no matter what all your other safety schools offer, don’t do priority wait list.
