Waitlisted at Duke...any chance?

Hey guys, so I sincerely thought I'd get into Duke but their acceptance rate dropped from 18 to 14.8% this year (Crazy!) and now I've been waitlisted. :( Does anyone know of instances where people still make it into Yale while being waitlisted here?

I definitely think that there’s still a chance of being accepted to HYP even with being waitlisted at Duke. Different schools are looking for different types of applicants, so being waitlisted at one school doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re out of the running for a more competitive one.

A lot of us Yale hopefuls are in the same boat as you [myself included]. I really wasn’t expecting this from Duke and it didn’t help my anxiety about thursday at all…

YES! people in the same boat as me! All my decisions now come out of Thursday, but I agree with chibi. Different school, different criteria. Also, Yale is need blind for internationals, which I think screwed me at Duke

D accepted Yale. Waitlisted Duke. The school colors are the same. She got over it. Good luck. And she is a double legacy…at Duke.

Same boat.

Thanks, BlueHouseMom. That alone will keep me going until April 1.

I’ve been semi-optimistic…
until today

got waitlisted at duke, and after being deferred EA from yale, gave up on the thought of being in new haven next year
at this point, if I get into ANY one of the ivies I applied to, I will be grateful. im so depressed :frowning: ive been crying for three hours

I feel you Stupefy…deferred from Yale and just got waitlisted at Duke ■■■
crossing my fingers for thursday

Stupefy, don’t worry. I was rejected from Stanford early… then accepted at MIT. School decisions are independent of each other. Just wait it out.

I got rejected from Duke, and I am thinking that Yale won’t accept me either.

In the major scheme of things, it’s mostly what YOU do in college and not the college itself. A name only goes so far. And a lot of y’all are talented people. An average person would kill to have our statistics. :)

stupefy…I noticed that a lot of ivy league caliber kids were waitlisted by Duke. My S’s stats are similar to yours and he was waitlisted as well. He is still waiting to hear from schools on Thursday but was admitted to Georgetown early action and has been accepted at several other schools. I firmly believe that you will all end up where you were meant to go. You will probably be admitted on Thursday to one of your top schools. Remember that being waitlisted is not a rejection and it is very possible to be admitted off the waitlist if you want to be. Best of luck to you.

oh my gosh. an ivy league school is not everything, it’s not even most of something. there are many wonderful colleges that are just as good if not better than those in the ivy league (I would choose U of C over Cornell any day). Besides, it’s what you do in college that matters the most, not the name.

I’m in a similar situation.

Waitlisted at Georgetown, but still a Yalie hopeful.

Well I got waitlisted at Wash U and rejected at Duke and UChicago so, yea…there’s no way I’m getting into Yale.

I think duke may have been playing the yield game because I know that some of my friends didn’t get in who are way better than me but I got in… So although it might not make much sense, I feel less hopeful now

I have friends who:
got rejected from Brown, got into Penn and Princeton. Two of them
got rejected from HYPSM, got into Duke.
Rejected from honors prog at UT Austin, got into Yale, Duke, Brown.

Idiosyncracy, were you waitlisted or rejected? I’ve heard only two or three international who apply for aid at Duke get selected. Duke is very ‘need-aware’ for internationals. A friend of mine got into Duke on a pretty good FA package, but he had a green card.

waitlisted. They take 20-25 internationals who need aid, and consider us in an entirely different pool. I hear though it is VERY selective And that they do seriously consider your need when offering admission.

Noonesfool, please if you know much about Duke’s international admissions (like how tough etc) they are, please pm me, as well as what chances of getting off the waitlist. Am applying to HYP and Cornell as well.

I got into Yale, was rejected at Duke and waitlisted at Emory; I know of someone else, a current Yale student, who was also outright rejected at Duke. So like any other applicant you shouldn’t get your hopes up too high, but don’t completely despair, either.

how did decisions for yale already go out? i can’t log into my online thing…

hajikami probably got in through SCEA
