Just got waitlisted at Duke. I wasn't planning on going (would rather go to UVA since I pay Virginia tuition there) but it just hurts because I know Duke is less selective than Yale and I've been looking forward to Yale's decision.

Has anybody ever heard of someone getting waitlisted at Duke or a peer school and then accepted to a school like Yale?

(this is probably a stupid question but I'm in a terrible mood right now and am just looking for some reassurance) :(

These threads are so ridiculous. What one school looks for is different than other schools, just because you got Waitlisted at Duke/MIT/Berkeley/ whatever doesn’t mean you won’t get into Yale.

Ten years from now, after you have graduated from whatever college you attended, none of your angst expressed today will matter. You will be working at a job, that hopefully you love, and it will not matter one iota if you attended Duke, Yale or UVA. Please try to keep everything in perspective. As decisions are coming in, what you (and your parents) need to look at is what school is offering you the BEST financial aid without loans – because in 10 years, you will either be debt free or still under a mountain of debt.

I know someone who got rejected at Stanford, but got into Harvard. I know it’s hard, but keep calm, and listen to the other posters above me! You’re obviously an strong student, so you’ll succeed wherever you go! Good luck!

My friend got into Penn, MIT, UNC Full Ride, UChicago, and is a finalist for the Robertson at Duke and got in a few other places too, but got rejected at Wash U, so yes you still have a chance.
