Waitlisted at Grinnelle

S is wait listed at Grinnelle College what are the chances of his getting admitted. He got in at Carleton College and WUSTL. Thanks.

For the Fall 2009 class at Grinnell, 1026 applicants were offered places on the waiting list. 309 applicants accepted places on the waiting list. 71 wait-listed students were admitted. This was a much higher rate than the WL-admits at some peer schools.

Be sure to spell the college name correctly if you contact them.

Grinnell is an outstanding school, no question about it. But in a three-way race with Carleton and WashU, I would imagine that it would come in a distant third for most applicants. Unless you anticipate that the aid will be more favorable at Grinnell, it sounds to me as if your son is waiting on a Toyota with two Lexuses already parked in his garage!

I disagree, gadad. S chose Grinnell over Carleton and didn’t bother applying to WU because he wanted a LAC. No ‘toyota vs. lexus’ about it. At that level of academic excellence, it comes down to fit and Grinnell was a better fit than either of the others him. Rockies son will have to make the same call.

I disagree too. My S did not even apply to Carleton and probably would have gotten in. He chose Grinnell over Carleton due to the fit being better at Grinnell. Carleton and Grinnell are very comparable and rank very close to one another. They are both top 15 LAC’s. Don’t know how you can call one a Toyota and one a Lexus??? That makes no sense at all. In the world of LAC’s, both have incredible reputations and academics and they are both viewed as the same, in fact many that apply to one, apply to the other. Again for most people it comes down to fit. The OP will have to see what fits him better. Both are excellent schools.
