Waitlisted at JHU and Georgetown, accpted early at Dmouth?

College admission trends are so tricky. Dmouth is an ivy and wayy harder to get into that JHU or Gtown, and yet i got accepted their early. So what does a waitlist mean...youre not good enough or they they think youre better and wont take the school?

whats the chance of getting into a higher ivy now after a dmouth likely letter?

The exact same as there were before getting the likely letter :). Haha I’ve gotten a likely from Dmouth and Cornell, but really they are all independent of one another. Ahh thank you AP stat…

If you got accepted to Dartmouth early, how did you apply to JHU and Georgetown? Your Dartmouth admission is binding.

@VeryHappy: likely letter… there are several threads on here about them.

^
That’s not how it SHOULD be done. IF a student applies to an Early Decision school and gets in, then the high school should not have sent out said student’s transcript to any other school. A school district near me does this all the time and it is wrong because it takes the chances away from other students.

As has been pointed out, the OP did not apply ED. She received a likely letter during the RD round.

No… it said she was accepted their [sic] early.

However, I think when it comes to Financial Aid decisions it may not be binding to give you a chance to compare offers perhaps. But I don’t agree Dartmouth, just beause it’s an ivy, is a lot harder to get into than Gtown or JHU. I know more than a few who were rejected from the latter and were accepted into the former – four to be exact. Selective is selective and once you have the scores and solid everything else, it’s a crapshoot unless you have a hook - legacy, URM, athlete with a specific school.

Of course, the confusion of likely and acceptance is an easy one to make and her brain has already gone to acceptance when she got the got the likely.

Ya the OP meant “early” as in he/she was notified “earlier” through a likely letter, not that they applied ED to Dartmouth.

Modadunn, she said this in her original post:

EDIT:
okay, upon edit of your post, you said:

Indeed, a likely letter=acceptance.

Sure sounded like ED to me.

OK, let’s assume it’s a likely letter from Dartmouth. Chances of being accepted at JHU and/or Georgetown are exactly the same as before the likely letter.

Even w/o AP Stat, I know that.

Sigh. Hope that doesn’t work in a reversed manner—I was accepted at JHU…

But anyway, I think you have a good chance if Dartmouth already showed interest in you.

I got into JHU and Dartmouth, which is better for bio/premed? (not just academically but overall too)
