Waitlisted at Northwestern/denied (in-state) to Berkeley- Any hope for lower ivies?

Assuming no hooks, do I have any chance at low ivies (dartmouth, columbia)?

I’m hoping so, because i’m in this same boat!!!

Haha wait… when were Dartmouth and Columbia seen as “lower ivies”?
Both of their acceptance rates are around 10% - Columbia being even less if you applied to the college instead of engineering.

Anyway… there’s no telling, unfortunately. Anything can happen, so keep your chin up ( :
Whatever happens happens. As long as you did the best you could on your apps (and throughout high school), trust that you’ll get in somewhere good, and somewhere where you belong.

I was just referring to schools below the HYP level.

the “lower ivies” should be Brown and Cornell. Dart and Columbia definitely belong to the “higher Ivies”. :D

and quite agree with ocgirl.
I got into Northwestern but was rejected by Lehigh U (my safety school! ahhhhhhh…) and Carleton College.

so you see everything’s unpredictable.

I think what determines an ivy-league college as “lower ivies” is their name value. In this sense, it will be Dartmouth and Brown. Cornell is indeed on the lower level of ivy, but it has a lot more name value in the international community.

yes, everything Is unpredictable. don’t jump to conclusions based on other schools’ rejections or acceptances. you never know! :)

I’ve seen people rejected from Northwestern, but got in to Harvard. Even though I don’t quite agree with you that Columbia is a lower ivy, you still have a fair chance to get in - it’s like buying the lottery ticket, losing twice doesn’t lead to an automatic lose in the third round. So cheer up - until Thursday!

I wouldn’t lose hope… It’s so unpredictable. Many schools account for interest and likelihood of attending. I was rejected from UNC Chapel Hill and waitlisted at George Washington, but I got into Northwestern.

I have a friend who was rejected from Northwestern, but got into Cornell. There is still hope!

Is UPenn a lower Ivy? Their admission rate is quite high

Harvard /Princeton / Yale

Columbia / Penn

Dartmouth / Cornell

Brown

Brown is definitely a higher ivy. EVERYONE wants to go to brown these days…

As for me, I got rejected at Northwestern and Stanford, but accepted at WashU and Oberlin (10k/yr in merit).

I’m totally ready to get shafted come April 1st… :(

(It’s strange I got not even a waitlist from NU… and everyone gets in to NU…)

you are incredibly self-assured for being rejected

futurephysician: false, everyone does not get into NU check out the decisions board and see the kids with near perfect SATs/GPAs to tell you that. Northwestern’s selectivity is not quite as fine as the Ivies, but it’s certainly not predictable.

futurephysician: NU’s acceptance rate is roughly 7% lower than last year’s. you see all the acceptances in the NU thread on CC, but that’s just a small number of people compared to the others who do not use CC.
