Waitlisted at Oxford

I'd never imagine I'd be wait listed at Oxford. How is it even possible? Needless to say, I'm very disappointed.

That’s too bad mate, I’m sure you’ll have better luck with your other colleges!

I’m sorry to hear that you were waitlisted. College admissions can be insane and unpredictable.

Oxford is becoming very competitive. Did you demonstrate interest, or did you just assume you were going to get in? I looked through you past posts and I couldn’t have much stats-wise to assist in contextualizing your post.

Moving to next steps, do you have back-up schools? Where is Oxford on your list? Is it high enough of a priority to try to get off the waitlist?

My stat’s well above the 75th percentile for Oxford.
Back-up school yes I do, but I just don’t want to attend them. I’ll indicate interest to Oxford, of course.
So does it mean I have no chance for Em?

How do you guys know this already? I thought these decisions weren’t out until tonight??

@Nihility: Decisions for Emory are not out till tonight. Only decisions for Oxford were out already.

i’m an international. sat:2100+(CR670,M760,W680), good essays and ec, i can’t believe I’m waitlisted. But do i have a chance to be admitted to Emory ?

@wszsdmjj: Hey there, I rmb you from Georgia Tech thread XD

Don’t get disappointed just yet. Maybe you get rejected from Oxford because you’re over-qualified for the school, and maybe you’ll get accepted to Emory XD
Wait for decisions to come out tonight =)

Best of luck to both of us. I only applied to Emory, not Oxford.

I don’t know the actual reasons behind why you guys got denied or waitlisted. I’m just making assumptions that maybe you guys are over-qualified for Oxford.

But either way, don’t get bogged down. Wait for decisions tonight =)

Also got waitlisted…
international with sat 2090 and UW GPA 3.9…
Ugg…oxford is my top choice…seems like I have no choice but UCLA

When did they come out? I was on OPUS last night and it said no decisions were available, as well as receiving an email from Oxford that mentioned decisions not coming out until Wednesday the 28th at 7p.m.
aka tonight.

For some reason the Oxford decisions were out this morning, pretty early. I randomly checked for no good reason and there it was. But yes, they did originally say 7:00 p.m. tonight.

Ahh, okay. Makes sense. I’ll check when I get home! I don’t have my login with me here. Ugh so nervous.

I still don’t have anything there…
I log in to OPUS, scroll down to the bottom of the page where it says “Admissions,” click “View Online Decision” and it says:
“Your admission decision is not available at this time. Please check your Admission To Do list for remaining application requirements. If all application materials have been received, check your school’s website for decision release dates or for decision timeframes. Thank you for your interest in Emory University.”

How do I check Oxford!? Is mine not out yet maybe?

I know emotions are running high, but I must admit that I resent the idea that someone is over-qualified for Oxford. I have two close friends with HS 4.0s and 2390 SAT scores and many, many friends with >2000 SAT scores and >30 ACTs. Now, if you didn’t seem interested in Oxford in your application because you assumed you’d get in… that’s another story.

BlackBunny103:thanks a lot! I feel much better now . i really hope that we both can get in  good luck !

i checked “student center” again, and my decision of oxford disappeared ! and the old message came out again “Your admission decision is not available at this time…”
what’s going on ??

I never saw a decision…

Oxford waitlisted me. I thought that was great, with an 800 CR and a 550 Math. I mean, it’s still a chance.

Haha, I was totally not expecting to get waitlisted at Oxford. But, things happen for a reason, I guess. I also thought I’d be going to Carnegie Mellon, but their financial aid package is by far the worst I’ve ever seen, and I probably won’t be able to attend.

So how does Oxford’s waitlist work? I’m almost positive I won’t get taken off of Emory’s waitlist, as I have a 3.55 UW GPA. Does Oxford rank waitlisted students? As in, do “stronger” students get in first? Although I don’t know what this year’s applicant pool looks like, I thought my stats were pretty strong for Oxford (3.55/4, 4.1W, 33 ACT, All-State Debater, Debate captain, etc). Really hoping I’m going to get off their waitlsit, haha.
