Waitlisted at Oxford?

Remember me? The chick who got her arse rejected from ED1? Well, I figured I'll apply for Oxford just for the sake of applying there and I found out last night (much to my surprise) that I was waitlisted. I mean, how?? Do I suck that bad? Emory I can get, but Oxford? Argh. What did I do wrong??

don't despair.....I just got waitlisted from my first choice college....ahhh....wish you the best of luck....keep the admission people in contact...

I think many (not all) adcoms are sadists, but that is just my opinion.

oxford saw a 275% increase in apps this year so its acceptance rate might be lower than emory now, assuming same retention rate.

wow! really? 275% increase i in applications?

Where are people getting that number anyways?

It'd be nice if that is true and they hold enrollment steady, so SAT and GPA averages will spike a bit. I know a lot of people who apply to Emory don't apply to Oxford even if they might like the small size solely because of the scores gap.

Then again, it's possible that with that big of a jump, many people (possibly Emory College applicants) are sending "just-in-case" apps and yield will decrease. I'm hoping the Emory Wheel will soon report on all the Class of 2012 stats like they typically do around this time of year.

jmw123: Yea, it's kind of weird that stats haven't been released though...Last year it was in the Emory Wheel on February 2nd......Do you make anything of this? It seems like the schools that have released have had astronomical rises......Possibly Emory's numbers stayed at the same or similar number and they didn't see the need to release so early.....

you shouls call end appeal i got in with a lower G.P.A and ACT i feel they made a mistake because your above there Mid 50 %

yes, I heard they received 300% as many applications. this is mainly due to the fact that this is the first year you can apply to both campuses under one fee. They are also pushing Oxford at the admissions info sessions.

to add more credibility, I heard the 300% number from an admissions personell when i attended the scholars weekend.

and that is a good point. oxford's admit rate will likely be lower than emory's this year, and scores will increase. This is a delightful thing for the school, a horrifying development for applicants

JohnC: did you hear any numbers for Emory Campus? Seems very secretive this year.......

I'm going to fill out the waitlist sheet and appeal my decision. Thanks for the suggestions and comments and good luck for those of you applying for Emory RD!
