waitlisted at Pitt

has anyone been waitlisted forthe 2015 fall term at pitt with guaranteed admission in the spring? does anyone know what the percentage of waitlisted students were admitted in the fall of 2014?

Not sure, I was accepted just a couple of days ago. Seeing posts like these reminds me to turn down offers I won’t seriously consider for others like you on the waiting list. Best of luck! Hopefully my spot will free up for you!

How were you notified? I am afraid I may have missed the correspondence.

DS received a wailtlist notice in the mail. He did call the Admissions office beforehand and he was told to expect a response within a few days. He was offered a choice: acceptance to ACES or wailist to Swanson school of Engineering. He chose waitlist. Based on past common data sets provided by UPitt I think he has a 50/50 chance of getting off the waitlist. But common wisdom recommends assuming the worst and making alternate plans.

In State or Out of State?

OOS. I Would have thought the because UPitt offers rolling admission, most applicants have heard by now. DS applied to the very competitive Bioengineering major. I was told by DS’s guidance counselor that UPitt likes students from his school. That being said the average accepted GPA from same school is a staggering 4.61. Since DS’s GPA was nowhere close it was actually very fair that UPitt offered waitlist.

Thanks. We are still waiting was deferred for mid-year grades, sent them 4 weeks ago. Called admission and they indicated should get decision very soon, but said same thing the week before. applied to Engineering -Undecided.
Thanks for the information,

I talked with admissions and i was told that all waitlisted students were accepted into the fall semester last year but this document states only about half were called from the waitlist. I wonder if this is just the school of arts and sciences. Anyone have any other information?

Maybe some of them decided to go to a branch campus?

I’m in the same situation and went to an accepted students day yesterday and talked to an admissions counselor who told me one year they accepted everyone off the waitlist, one year they accepted 5, and it really all depends on how many students decide to matriculate. The letter I got said I would hear back again by June 1 but she said I’ll probably hear in mid-May.

Recd email today - no fall admission only January. Called admissions and was told they over enrolled and no one has been offered fall admission. So disappointed.

Sorry you didn’t get in for fall. You can probably pick up a good job when all the college kids leave though and then start in the new year. A semester is only about 4 months long. How does that work with housing, will you be able to get a spot on campus?

i was told that there would be guaranteed housing for freshman in january. plan now is to attend another school for fall term and transfer credits to pitt to keep with graduating on time. still so frustrated. making one last attempt with admissions in case there are students who have been accepted from a waitlist of another school and choosing that school over pitt. in the big picture, if this is the worst thing that happens during college, i’ll be pretty lucky

I am in the same boat, it was incredibly crushing when I read the decision. I’m not entirely sure of what plan of action to take next.

If you take classes somewhere else, will you then still be considered a freshman or a transfer student? You need to check with Pitt. Because I don’t think transfer students are guaranteed housing?
