Hey guys, i’m a transfer student who just got their admission decision. And as you can tell by the title I got wait listed. The intended major that I applied for is Cognitive Science (alternate was econ). And not sure what I should do at this point. UCSD was my first choice and i’m pretty sad about not getting in. But I guess being waitlisted is better than nothing. If I get off the wait list I will SIR asap, without hesitation lol. But between now and late july (assuming that’s when WL decision comes out) I will need to plan out my academic future. (On a side note how easy is it to get off the wait list? Anything to help me get off the waitlist?)
So I have 3 options that I have moving on from now. My first option is to go to SJSU. I got accepted for Bus Admin w/ concentration in Management Information Systems. I really like the SJSU campus but I don’t quite like the curriculum of the classes that I would be taking there. I’m more in it for the tech aspect of the major.
My second option is to go to UCSC. I got accepted for TIM (Technology & Information Management). The major is similar to the major I got in for at SJSU but less business classes (which I like). However I really dislike the UCSC campus. It’s smack in the middle of the forest and I’m not a big nature guy tbh. On top of that I always envisioned myself going to school in socal.
My third option is to spend another year at community college. If I spend another year at CC well, that would suck because I’m currently in my third year right now and spending a 4th year would make me a bit sad. I would be stuck with my parents which I dislike. And from a social aspect I would be seeing all my friends from high school already graduate college while i’m still at CC.
On the other hand, going to cc will allow me to boost my gpa (currently a 3.2. The most it can go is 3.5), finish igetc, and finish major prep for the cogsci major to get to ucsd. I only have to take three more classes to finish Igetc and I should have the major prep completed by this summer. So that means I would only be spending one semester at CC, and I guess i’ll just use spring semester to work full time. Another concern is I would basically be pouring all my eggs in this basket for ucsd and if I don’t get in for the fall 2022 cycle then it would kinda feel like a wasted year almost.
UCSD just seems like the perfect fit for me, it has the major I want and the location is amazing. I really want to go into either UI/UX design, or Front end dev. I took a look at the cogsci courses and ALL the classes seem so appealing to me, just looking at the cogsci classes being offered makes me very eager to learn.
Any advice would be much appreciated, and happy national boba day!
