Waitlisted at Washington St. Louis

I was waitlisted at Washington St. Louis, but I’m confused because I was selected as an Emory Scholar Finalist and an A. B Duke Scholar finalist-- shouldn’t that mean that my application is competitive enough for WUSTL? I would say my (one) essay for WashU was of similar caliber to the essays I wrote for WUSTL & Emory. Does this mean that my chances are slim for other Ivies, esp. HYPS?

No, it means you are an amazing student with great options at two of the finest schools on the planet earth.

HPYS offer slim odds to all. You are probably more competitive than most. But odds are slim.

And wash U, like many other highly selective schools have too many great kids for spots available.

And the Duke and Emory people are not looking for the same things as Wash U.

Congrats on the success so far.

Being waitlisted isn’t the end of the world. And if you have Duke or Emory acceptance in hand, I would honestly not worry about WashU.

Perhaps WashU sensed a lack of perceived interest. Don’t try to second guess or analyze things.

Thanks guys. Just got waitlisted at JHU and UChicago as well, I guess my application wasn’t as competitive as I thought.

what was your whole list?

UCs: UCSD, Davis, UCLA, Berkeley
All Ivies except Dartmouth
MIT (rejected)
JHU (waitlisted)
WashU (waitlisted)
UChicago (waitlisted)
Duke (likely letter- A.B. Duke scholar finalist)
Emory (likely letter- Emory University Scholar finalist)
Stanford
Case Western Reserve
Northeastern (likely letter- accepted full ride)
Northwestern
Vanderbilt
Univ. North Texas (accepted full ride)
Virginia Commonwealth University (accepted full ride)

Are you in-state or OOS for the UCs?

OOS

Your application WAS competitive!! That’s why you got those great likely letters!! It was just that JHU and UChicago wanted someone else. That’s all. Different schools want different students!

OOS for UCs means paying 65,000 with no aid.

thanks, i’m aware. our efc is pretty high, we aren’t going to get great aid anywhere
