So I've been waitlisted; Wesleyan was definitely one of my top choices. I also got into Tufts, Hamilton, NYU, and UVA, but I would've gone to Wesleyan over all of those even though I'm happy about those acceptances. Any advice moving forward, and how should I go about getting off the waiting list?

Send a letter to your Wesleyan rep expressing your interest and provide any updates to your application (new awards, etc.). I know a number of freshman who were originally on the waitlist and they received calls in June. Don’t give up!

Lol can we trade identities?! Wesleyan is one of my top choices, but I would have gone to Tufts over the other schools I got accepted to, however I was rejected at Tufts. =( All of these schools are so competitive, its complete guesswork where you will get in and where you won’t. I know I will be happy at any of the other schools I end up at - after all, I applied to them for a reason! While I may not get to go to Tufts, I have a very difficult choice to make over the next month between Haverford and Wesleyan.

I’m sorry you didn’t get accepted right away, but you still have a chance to get into the school of your dreams! Make sure you clearly express your continued interesting attending Wes despite being waitlisted. Send them any new information that may help you get accepted!

Good Luck!

According to the Common Data set, Wesleyan ranks people on its waitlist…probably worth asking about your standing to know if you should hold hold out for it. If not, Tufts does have some similarities in the vibe. You’ve got some amazing choices, I’m sure you’ll find somewhere to be happy :)

It does not. Check out the 2013-14 Common Data set.

“Is the waiting list ranked?
No, the waiting list is not ranked. However, as each applicant was read, the deans made notes and recommendations. A rating system was used, so we have some idea of which students look the strongest.”

I was waitlisted as well.
I’m a bit concerned about writing the letter to my admissions representative. How can I find out who my representative is, and should this be sent by mail or will email suffice?
Also, what sort of updates would be worthy of mention?

I was waitlisted too. I didn’t even realize how much I wanted to go to Wesleyan until they waitlisted me because I had been telling myself I would get straight up rejected. But as soon as I had a glimmer of hope, I was desperate to get in. I want to go back in time and study more for the SATs and Honors Pre-Calc but it’s all in the past unfortunately. I worked my ass off this quarter while I watched all my friends start senior slumping because they were perfectly content in where they were committing. As soon as the quarter ends, I am sending my grades to Wes and then finishing drafting what I like to call my “love letter” to Wes. As soon as that is sent, Everything is out of my hands and I am going to do my best to get excited about Mount Holyoke and/or Bard, two awesome schools that want me reeaaaalll badly haha and gave me great financial aid & scholarships. I am going to try to put Wesleyan out of my mind and if I do happen to be one of the lucky few to get off the waitlist, it will be a pleasant surprise. To those of you on the waitlist, I feel your pain. This is a really rough process.

Excellent plan, good luck with it.
