Unfortunately, I was wait listed at Whitman (my top choice) today. This was something I was definitely not hoping for. I'm hoping to get accepted off the wait list, and I was wondering if anyone had any advice. I'm also confused about the wait list process itself. Do I need to agree to attend another school in the meantime? Am I allowed to send other materials and supplements during this time? Also, if anyone knows anything about starting at Whitman in January, please let me know!

Thanks! I know it will be a challenge to get off this list, but Whitman is definitely worth it to me.

KnittedSocks, I believe poster rix might be able to answer your question about starting in January.

Whitman has to sort through all admitted students' reply cards to decide if it needs to call any students on the waitlist. Meanwhile, you do need to pick a school before May 1st and send in your deposit, since chances of getting an admissions spot from their waitlist could be slim and very unpredictable.

You have a month to make your case for why they should draw you off the wait list so it is probably worth demonstrating your interest and it certainly can't hurt. There will be admitted students for whom it is not the top choice and that means room may open up...

They usually offer January admission to a limited number of students now--and the ones I have know of have then often been able to go it the fall if there is room. That can then open up January spaces as well.

If it is really where you want to go, let them know...

The same thing happened to me - the January admit., waitlisted for fall 2008 thing. Ugh. I think that as soon as I read that, I realized it was probably my top choice. I don't have any advice, but just know that you're not alone. :)
