Waitlisted...Bah.

Anyone have any idea how difficult it is to get off the waitlist into the admitted pool? I've gotten a decent amount of noteworthy stuff completed this senior year, but I'm not sure if its enough. Furthermore, I don't know about the May 7 decision (it says on the letter that they should be able to inform waitlisted people of their admission status by May 7). Most colleges require final admission statements by May 1, so how does that work out?

Last year 5 got off the waitlist. You would have to put down a deposit somewhere else and then you would loose it if you got in off the wait list. Well worth it though for Pomona. There was info on the main site about getting in off the waitlist. Good luck!

I am so afraid for the packet/envelope to come...it's Easter sunday, and I haven't received it yet. All these waitlist decisions are freaking me out! I really hope my out-of-state status, interview, and parents-not-going-to-college help me out. Pomona is my first choice, and it's the only place I haven't heard back from. I just heard back from Northwestern and UChicago, and I got into those...

GAH!

"UChicago"
are you serious? you already got yours??? why dont you tell the people on the UChicago board!?! theyre going crazy wondering if the decisions have been sent yet. were you EA or RD? im just assuming RD because you said you "just heard back from...."

Arizonamom: I checked the main site but couldn't find any information regarding the waitlist. Did your information about 5 kids getting admitted from the waitlist come from the site, word of mouth, or some other source, if you don't mind saying? Also, do you know how many kids generally are waitlisted at Pomona? (There seems to be such a range at the various schools; so far I've seen a small LAC with a waitlist under 300 and another small LAC with a waitlist of 1250!)

I e-mailed with a parent on here whose son got in off the waitlist last year. He was an athletic recruit with 1530 or 1540 SAT's. He was told that they were taking 5 off the list and that the few years before did not take any. Each year is different though. He is still on the board but maybe if you post on parents forum, he will respond. His son went elsewhere with a full scholarship and is happy.

A-Mom: Thanks. Will do.

5 off the waitlist!!!?!!!

How big is the waitlist? Where can I find the Common Data Set for Pomona?
Pomona is my number one choice. So far accepted into USC, Brandeis and Emory.

Hmmm...doesn't look super good for me...

Judging from what I've seen, I was somewhat underqualified compared to some of the other waitlisted people. I had something like a 3.7 unweighted GPA, 1460 SAT I, 760,750, and 740 on SAT II's. However, I had a huge amount of unusual extracurriculars, like Eagle Scout and forming a small business, etc. I figure they waitlisted me because of the copious amount of b's I've gotten...

This is mind, I'm wondering if my senior year grades could help my chances of admission. I've taken basically all AP classes, and gotten straight A's, which would seem to show progress in my problem area. From what I understand, getting off the waitlist requires fixing or showing improvement where it's needed, and I think I can prove that with a good essay and a transcript. I'm just not sure what my chances are, and since Pomona isn't necessarily my first choice, I'm not sure if it's worth the effort. Any input? Think it's worth it?

Unless you would attend Pomona if accepted, I would advise you to just sit tight, otherwise it could imply that you're looking for a trophy acceptance that could work against you should you ever consider transferring there in the future.

was also waitlisted. pomona was number one choice but, well. does anybody know if how you get off the waitlist has anything to do with other people at your school? about 15 people from my hs applied, 2 got in, 1 waitlisted (me) and rest were rejections, i believe. so far, both those 2 are fairly sure theyre going somewhere else (upenn & jhu). does that make any difference at all?

Accepted to : Berkeley (2nd choice), JHU (BME), Brandeis, Emory, USC

Pomona remains my top choice! I know if I get in from waitlist, I will 100% enroll. What should I do??!

I think I will lose my deposit money and National Merit Scholarship for another school. =</p>
