If I am not mistaken, Amherst college only accepted 2 of those on the wait list for 2006. Does that mean that those who were deferred from ED have a worse chance of admissions than regular applicants?

Tell me this isn’t true…

According to my deferral letter from the Director of Admission a deferral does not minimize your chances for RD. You are placed into the RD pool. I do not believe that a deferral is in any way a diminution of how we are evaluated as against our RD pool peers. RE-read your deferral letter. It is the number of applicants this year that makes our chances of admission so difficult. Depending on what cohort we fall in eg socio-economic group, gender etc that will determine our chances assuming that we are strong candidates to begin with. I for one am keeping my fingers crossed and asking all my CC buddies to think good thoughts. But even if I don't make Amherst I have some great colleges that I have applied to that I love.

thanks for the encouragement danalynne.
