Ok. So I’m #1 on the waitlist for a Chem 2C class. But from what I remember from last year after a certain point they completely ignore the waitlist and in fact make it impossible for students to add the class without showing up at labs to try and get a spot based on luck.

Is this going on right now? If one person drops the class, will I get in according to Sisweb? I’m confused.

I can speak as a chemistry TA.
For general chemistry - there is NO such thing as a wait list order. All the TA’s & instructors see is an alphabetical listing of people on the waitlist. If they added in the order they see, people with last name “A” would a shoe in, and people with last name “Z” would be screwed over every time. Hence why you need to show up for labs, it’s the only fair way.

And since I’m #1 on the waitlist, if one person drops the class then I will automatically be enrolled? Or is it even if that person drops I will still be on the waitlist and need to show up for the lab?

I don’t get why this works differently for Chem. It’s actually unfair that the people who signed up first and who were committed don’t get the priority!

i actually am first for a waitlisted for Chem2A too. but it said “CLOSED”. i saw some that were “OPEN - 09” waitlisted. should i have waitlisted for the open class instead?!
