I believe about 1000 people remained on the list from previous years, so i guess expect the same amount this year too.

Has anyone heard anything yet? Today last year the first people were taken off the WL! (source: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/dartmouth-college/1114813-waitlisted-dartmouth-what-now-2.html)

I don’t think Dartmouth will contact anyone over the weekend! Probably will start early next week though…

I am confused about the math regarding the desired number of students for the Class of 2016. I read on the thedartmouth site that the Admissions Office is aiming for a class of 1,100 to 1,110 students. They already know that a total of 1,080 students accepted Dartmouths offer of admission. Doesn’t that mean around 20 to 30 students will get off the waitlist? If so, why are the comments in [TheDartmouth.com: 1,080 students accept offer of admission to Class of 2016, representing 49.5 percent yield](http://thedartmouth.com/2012/05/04/news/yield) using last year’s statistic, stating that 35 people will get off the waitlist? And the article states that 1114 people accepted the offer in the class 2015, not the number 1115.

Also, isn’t this a bit low to submit only 20 to 30? Considering that last year, they took off 86 people (according to collegeboard’s annual survey) and the initial yield numbers of both years are similar.

Also, in [TheDartmouth.com: Yield for Class of 2015 decreases to 52 percent](http://thedartmouth.com/2011/05/23/news/yield) , it states, “A total of 1,114 students accepted Dartmouths offer of admission to the Class of 2015.” This was after they submitted people off the waitlist. Below this quote, “The desired class size for the Class of 2015 is a maximum of 1,109 due to housing accommodations and College resources.” This is five more people that the desired mark. This means that the admissions offered more students from the waitlist than the desired mark. Does this indicate that the admissions office will be open this year to submit more people than the desired mark of “1,100 to 1,110 students?”

lol sorry for overanalyzing. I was just confused when I read both articles. I hope you guys can clear it up for me!

I’ve read that each year 20-30 students will either defer (the deadline to request a gap year is June 1) or rescind their acceptances in favor of other schools.

They have started notifying accepted students via email.

^ I thought it was a phone call??

They both send emails and called accepted students.

Today I received a call from Dartmouth during my AP Gov class telling me that I got accepted!!! I’m so happy I can’t believe it!!!

Just got in off the waitlist today!

Congrats, guys!!! Do you mind sharing what you did, if anything, after you were waitlisted?

Again, congrats!

So will they continue to accept students?

I called the office today and they said that they will continue to accept students off the waitlist. The girl with whom I spoke said it’s a very prolonged process and that they will probably continue reassessing the waitlist until the end of June/beginning of July.

Coincidentally, a few minutes after I got off the phone, I received an email from the AdCom. It said something slightly different from what I was told on the phone, but all in all, pretty much the same message. Here’s what it said:

Dear xxxxxx,

Since May 1st, the Admissions Committee has monitored changes in Dartmouth’s entering class enrollment closely. Earlier this week, we contacted a small number of students who were admitted from the waiting list into the Class of 2016.

In the coming weeks, we will continue to watch the changes in the number of students planning to enroll in Dartmouth’s first year class. At the present time, we cannot predict if we will be able to admit additional students into the Class of 2016. If we are able to take further action, we will once again review the applications of students who have remained on the active waiting list.

If you remain interested in attending Dartmouth and have not submitted new information since your initial response to our offer of a place on our waiting list, we encourage you to send us an update via email to admissions.processing@dartmouth.edu. Additional submissions often include a short summary of recent accomplishments and activities, and when available, a student’s most recent grades.

However, if you would prefer to remove your name from further consideration, we encourage you to update your status online.

We will do our best to keep you informed of your status on the waiting list in the coming weeks through periodic email messages. If your email address will change at the end of the school year, please provide us with your new email address by updating your account online.

Sincere regards,

The Admissions Committee

^ Thanks! So there’s still hope… Yeah, I got that email too. Do you guys think it would be a good idea to have my school counselor contact the admissions office and lobby on my behalf, or will that only hurt me?

I sent an update of my application, an extra recommendation letter from my English teacher and a peer evaluation. Got accepted yesterday from the wait-list.

Congrats to those who got off the wait list! Can one of you lucky few post the email you received? Or alternatively, let us know if there is some sort of reply by deadline?

Thanks!

-iBP

May 16th is the deadline! Ill post the email later

@Mike

Thanks man, I’m assuming that you’re accepting? I didn’t get my update out until the beginning of this month and I’m pretty sure they didn’t see it yet. I almost had a meltdown when I heard that others got an email and I didn’t… Until I heard about a second wave, now I have hope. Maybe I’ll see you there?

-iBP

Here’s what I did:
- Sent in extra essays.
- Sent in an update of various awards/ ecs
- Asked my guidance counselor to contact D
- Wrote adcom a 2-pg letter about how much I wanted to go to D, why I thought it was a good fit for me.

Got the acceptance email 2 days ago! :)

Here’s the email (subject line: Good News from Dartmouth!.. I thought it was going to be a pretty nondescript email, like they were telling me Dartmouth won another award or something or received a huge alumni donation haha)
