Waitlisted classes

So I'm waitlisted for two classes: Poly Sci 1 (#21 out of ~400) and Rhetoric R1B (#4 out of 30). What are my chances of getting these classes and what should I do about getting textbooks? I'm particularly worried about wasting money on textbooks and ending up not getting into the class, or not buying the textbooks and getting into the class way behind schedule. Any advice?

i think you'll get into both classes. but don't buy the textbooks before you know for sure, especially the poli sci one - there's probably plenty of those to go around.

ya you'll get in. i'm 77 out of 325 for PS3 so sadly, i don't think i'll get in :( but number 9 in a class of 54 which i oughtta get into

i was wondering about a class i wanted to take that only has a waitlist of 5. is there a chance i could get into the class if i show up the first day? i believe the class size is 50

^ditto that.

The waitlist is full... at 5... with 8 seats left in the class. Will showing up be worth it?

You probably don't even need the textbook for the 1st day of class, so at least wait until then to see if you get in.

Just waitlist it and see. A lot of people seem afraid to waitlist a class...just sign up for an extra class, and see what happens. Adding and dropping classes is very convenient. Many people sign up for an extra class every semester only to drop their least favorite later on.

when/how do you know when youre off the waitlist? is this one of those times youre supposed to go talk to the professor?

sorry vicissitudes but i forgot to mention the fact that because the waitlist has a maximum of 5 people it is very difficult to get on it. if i did not get onto the waitlist, should i still show up the first day?
