For those who have experience with waitlisted classes, how likely is it for me to get into a class if I'm number 1 and 3 on the waitlists for Polsci 160 and French 235, respectively? I already emailed both departments and they advised me to show up for classes the first week. I'm just hoping I don't show up to those classes for nothing.

I'm waitlisted for classes that will automatically fit into my schedule. The Geosci is a substitution for French for now, and the history class is in place of the Polsci.

I was number 1 on the waitlist for POLSCI 300 for months and just got in yesterday. My adviser told me that in that particular class at least one person was likely to drop, so I was told not to worry about it and he was right. So you’ll just have to sit it out and wait, or your adviser might be able to give you an idea if someone is likely to drop still-- people have been dropping and adding courses for months. If you’re not there for the first classes the professor can give your seat to someone who is waitlisted, so it’s important to be there for every class to keep your seat if you’re enrolled, and be there to grab up someone else’s seat if you’re waitlisted. When someone drops you’ll get an email saying you have a permission to register for the course, and you can go add it for real then.

Now this part I might be misunderstanding, did you sign up for geosci and history in the same spots as the waitlisted courses? Because you can’t be in two places at once, and if you go to the waitlisted courses the first day in order to try for a seat, you may lose your seat in the alternative classes even if you aren’t eventually put into the waitlisted course. So you could end up with nothing that way.

I know people who got into language classes from the 15th-20th spot on the WL. I myself am 5th on the list for a class and am 99.9% sure that I will get in.

Not that you can schedule two classes in one time slot by clicking “override time conflict” on wolverine access, and then drop one when you figure things out.

It turned out they opened up a new Polsci discussion for me so I dropped my History class, and took up a physics class instead of Geosci. Unfortunately my Physics class is at the same time as my waitlisted French class. Any advice on what to do about that?

Depends what you want to do, really. Would you drop physics if you got into that French class? If so, enroll in both (check the box that says "override time conflict). Then see if you get an override into French, and if not, you’ll have to pick one on the first day and stick with it. I’m sure you’ll get into French if you go, or you can just go to physics.
