Hey, today I finally got my last decision letter, and as expected, I was waitlisted.
I've been waitliated by Kenyon, UChicago, Middlebury, Grinnell, Colorado College, and Bucknell. I was also rejected at Skidmore.
I've got a 3.8 GPA and a 2040 SAT and decent ECs (most impressive is being part of the general elections).
I've always been a good writer and thought my essays were unique.
Ths problem is that I'm an international who can afford paying like 5% of the tuition.
I don't know what makes me feel worse, the fact that I didn't get into any colleges, or the dissapointment my family will get after paying for the tests and apps.
So, with that being said, are there any chances I can get in to any waitlist, and if so, of getting financial aid?
I've already got admitted into a local college, so that would be my option if I didn't get into any waitlists.
Thanks for reading.

Commit to the one school you got into and then wait to see what happens. If there is one particular school that you really would want to go to, you can take steps to let them know you would definitely accept. However, with your need for financial aid- and most aid has already been given out- you may want to consider going to the local college, do well and then transfer next year.

Thanks for answering. What could I do to let the college know I will attend if I get accepted from the waitlist, since most of them don’t want you to send anything else?

How do you commit to one school? BY asking your GC to let school know that if accepted you would go there?

You send in your deposit and basically get ready to go there. You can only commit to where you’ve been accepted.

You don’t send in your deposit when you are waitlisted.

My friend’s child was waitlisted at Bucknell last year, which was her #1 choice. She was very upset. She ended up sending in the deposit to her second choice school. She received a call from Bucknell on May 1st to let her know she had one day to make up her mind if she wanted the spot. She and her Dad took a ride up to Bucknell and she fell in love. Dad said “ok.”

$30,000 more a year than choice two. Full pay.

Call or email and let the school of your choice know that you very interested in them.

Yes - that’s exactly what you do!

@060953 - The problem for you is that you’re an international who needs almost full financial aid. You had to know going into this how difficult that was going to make it. You did your best, which is all your family can expect from you. And, keep in mind, you were waitlisted ay these schools, not denied. That means they saw your potential and wanted to admit you . . . and if they had enough money, they most certainly would have. That’s something to be proud of! :)

Send an email to each school thanking them for considering you and requesting to remain on the waiting list. Certainly, the odds are against you . . . but you might be surprised!

If not, then you do your very best at the local college. Best of luck to you!!!
