and I am number 5 on the waitlist...so it's not looking promising. It's a 5 credit hour language class (meets every day MTWRF) in Fall 2009. I really want to take this class because I want to communicate better with my mom and grandparents (my mom speaks English well, but my grandparents are still back in the mother country). I already emailed the professor to ask him about this history of people dropping this course, but based off of your guys' experience or whatever kind of input, what do you guys think?

Just as a side note, I have made my schedule in such a way that, if I don't get this spot, I have 7 back up classes to take at the same time, which would fill requirements. These classes have 300+ people, and I will keep my eye on them, so I think I will be okay.

I took a piano class freshman year that was limited to 16 students, with a waitlist of about 50 students. Only 13 students showed up on the first day of classes, including waitlisted students. I think the class eventually had a total of 15 students, where everyone on the waitlist who came to the first or second class meeting got a spot. (At my college, you can only get off of the waitlist if you actually come to class.)

No past experience with which to answer, though I do feel your pain. I’m #23 on a waitlist for a 30 person class. So basically, unless 77% of people enrolled drop, I’m screwed. And the prof in question tends to teach just one class every academic year!
