hey y'all! a few questions... so i had the last orientation (it was a WHOLE lotta fun nonetheless)- but i kinda got screwed on classes. so here's my schedule (and no, that's not the question just yet)

Math 32A, CS31, CS1, History 3C(GE), one Fiat Lux class...

so yeah- first question- is this schedule do-able? considering CS1 and the Fiat Lux are 1 unit classes...

and second, i'm WAITLISTED (gasp-shudder-gasp) for Math 32A and History 3C (4th position on both waitlists). so yeah- what're the chances of getting into each of them? because if i don't- i don't meet the 12 unit requirement! i did email the professors 2 days ago... haven't heard from them yet! yeah... so suggestions, you're-so-screwed-posts, advice?

ps: I posted this in the engineering sub-thread too- but i guess this isn't just an engineering question- so putting it here too! yup! :)

I’m an incoming freshman CS major too. I was orientation 108 and was wait-listed for psychology, but I eventually got in. However, try the schedule optimizer on my.ucla.edu class planner and see if any other schedules are possible for you.

IMPORTANT:

The engineering school requires a minimum of 12 units per quarter, HOWEVER, should one of your classes be a Fiat Lux, your minimum number of units is bumped up to 14. <---- My orientation counselor told me that.

Wait lists are by no means guarantees. Talk to the professors directly after the first lecture as some don’t use e-mail. Try to have a backup plan otherwise just keep going the class that you are wait listed for. People will most likely drop it a few weeks into the course.

For Math 32A, you will most likely get in from the waitlist. Like Nit said, talk to the professor immediately after the first lecture and ask them if they know if the department is letting waitlists in, although they’ll probably mention it during the first few minutes of class.

I really don’t know about Hist 3C with regards to whether or not you’ll get in, but talk to the professor after the first lecture to find out what is up.

CS1 + Fiat Lux = maybe 2 hours of work outside class per week if you work slow.
