Waitlisted for Depaul University

Hey,

I applied for Depaul University on October and they deferred me in December or January. Now I am being waitlisted and I talked to them on the phone, emailed them, and talked to their assistant director of admissions. They all told me I'd have to wait until AFTER June 1st for them to even look at my application once more. Has this happened to anyone before? I understand I have to wait until summer in order to hear from them, but I would like to know what my chances are or if there is any way for me to increase my chances of getting in because Depaul has been my top choice of college since my Junior year in high school.

You can try writing them a letter to show that DePaul is still your first choice and that you are willing to study there if you are accepted.
I myself still haven’t heard of them… but not my first choice anymore.
Good luck !

This is common with a lot of schools who know they have over admitted; they have to do so and have no idea if they are even going to the wait list. Do you know how many cleared the waitlist last year? Some schools use the waitlist aggressively as part of their enrollment management but for others, it’ s truly just a matter of numbers.

Write a letter telling them that you will accept admissions if you clear the waitlist and send a brief list of accomplishments that have occurred since the app was filed and your new transcripts. Also ask your GC for help on this one.

My daughter was waitlisted after we had been told by a financial aid officer that she was admitted and then the admissions office said a decision had not yet been made. We finally got the wait list letter in mid April – fortunately - we’d already attended an admitted student’s day elsewhere and my daughter fell in love with that school. DePaul had been her first choice until then so a waitlist notification would have been devastating.

I’m relieved because I found their offices badly organized.
