@nallaire: I was waitlisted also… It’s just that I am not sure if we will even get in…

Hello fellow waitlisted peeps. Blah, I have no idea what to include in my letter of appeal. xD

Well, I’m not sure if this will help you guys feel better…
I got accepted today into Pre-psy

1850 SAT
3.91 UC GPA
I just left EC blank (I completely regretted it during the pending period :[ )
My PS was gorgeous, in my point of view, which doesn’t mean much
First-gen student, In-state

In a nutshell, I think those of you who got wait-listed with similar score as mine, will definitely get it. Then again, that’s just my opinion.

I’m planning on SIRing “no” to UCSB, and like dustinthewind, I’m planning on giving them a piece of my mind. The UCs this year are stranger in who they let in and who they reject. Hopefully, one of you guys get my spot.

It seems like all of you were borderline accepted. I was accepted into my second choice major (electrical engineering) with a 3.92 uc gpa and 32 act. And that is engineering…the hardest department to get into at ucsb. So I wish you all the best of luck! :)

If I was wait listed which means I won’t be in the honor program, will it be easy to get my classes still and to graduate in 4 years???
*

would moving be new and compelling evidence? i moved some distance and i dont think i told them that. i could say it was a reason for not working as hard in school during one of my years since i didnt do my best in 10th grade.

@indianboy1933 Not doing your best is your own effort issue, I wouldn’t recommend appealing with that. Though, I think moving and being unable to adapt to the new environment, thus affecting your performance, can work as an effective appeal.

Okay, I called the admissions office and they confirmed that no one was admitted off the waitlist last year, but the year before almost everyone was accepted off the waitlist. There are over 3,500 applicants that were offered a spot on the waitlist, and they won’t know how many spots are open until after May 1st. I asked about housing and registering for classes, she said that wait listed students are considered the same as regular applicants and that there shouldn’t be a problem getting spots in either one. She kept emphasizing that wait listed applicants should accept another university’s offer, which makes me think that the waitlist situation is probably the same as last year :/

Great…Waitlisted at both SB and Davis.

@CSB111 I’m right there with you…does anyone know if you appeal and get denied, are you still on the wait list or do they take you off all together and you have no chance of getting in?

@Nallaire I don’t think you can appeal when you’re in the wait list. Only those who’re rejected can appeal. To my knowledge anyways.

You can appeal, waitlisted or not. You should always try the appeal route if it is something you really want. It’s worth a try. New and compelling information could do it for you.

Here’s the official statement from the UCs on Waitlists from last March 2011. Two campuses–Irvine and Santa Barbara DID admit students on the waitlist for the Fall 2010 admission cycle: 40%. I have checked their website and there is no report about 2011 and how many were admitted.

My belief is that if you really want something, go for it. What’s the worst thing that can happen? They don’t accept the appeal and you are rejected even though on the wait list. If you don’t try, you’ll never know. ;)

They say to accept another offer because you have to let another school know by May 1st. Basically, they’re saying don’t put everything on getting into SB off the waitlist; have a backup.

I was accepted, no idea how. 3.96 GPA, 1820 2 AP’s, 2 IB’s, of mexican descent, and not many extrucurriculars. Good essays though. Anyway, admissions this year were VERY competitive. Even the most qualified applicants were denied. I highly doubt that many people will be accepted from the waitlist because of this. A lot of people who were planning on going to top colleges were denied, leaving UC’s as their backup schools. In my opinion, unless you have a very good reason to appeal, UCSB will probably not accept you. But I might be wrong. Good luck to everyone!

Does anyone have a feel for whether or not UCSB will admit off the waitlist?

Has anyone heard back from UCSB who either appealed or were wait listed?

I am waitlisted and have an appeal pending. I called the admissions office earlier today to ask when I will hear from them. I was told that I can expect to hear back early next week. Though I must say the lady on the phone did not seem like she was quite sure of what she was saying.

I encourage you all to call the admissions office and ask them when decisions will come out; if we can get similar answers from different people we may have a better insight on our situations.
