waitlisted for gtown...

Hi is there anyone who can help me out? I was admitted to USC, which is one of my top choices, but waitlisted to Gtown, which is another top choice of mine. I honestly didn't think i had any chance of getting into Gtown's SFS because of how competitive it is, and truly believed that USC was where i was going to go for sure. But now that i found out i'm waitlisted, it seems that i have to take a big risk with Gtown or play it safe and stick with USC. the problem is that I have to reply to USC by May 1st, but Gtown's notifications for those on the waitlist don't come out until May 15th. Does this mean that if i keep myself on Gtown's waitlist i would have to reject my acceptance to USC? And if i don't get a spot in Gtown (i heard the chances of students on the waitlist being accepted is pretty slim), how would i be able to enroll myself in USC or any of the other colleges that accepted me? Wouldn't it be too late? I don't know what to do! :(

I suggest you send your deposit into USC and if you do come off the Wait List at Georgetown and decide you want to go there, simply withdraw from USC.

thanks for the advice! what are the chances of being admitted from the waitlist?

Usually, your wait list notification makes some mention of the numbers admitted from the list in years past. If not, you should definitely call Admissions at GT and ask. If the deposit to USC is affordable for you to lose, I think BKPJ’s plan is a good one.

Apparently GU didn’t take anyone from the waitlist last year :frowning: I’m crossing my fingers that this year will be different, but at least i still have USC!

GU did not accept anyone off the waitlist last year and usually accepts around 3-10% off the list who choose to stay on it. Definitely put down a deposit at USC, you can always withdraw it and also, not to be negative, but your chances of getting off the list are very low as I would imagine the acceptance rate would be similar to last year’s.

My plan is to do a deposit at either UVA or Northwestern and hope for the best. Hopefully someone gets in!

I know chances are slim, but just the thought of the possibility of getting in is killing me! btw how do i find my GU application number? I need this to fill out the wait list form. I searched through all my records and was only able to find my GU ID number and my transaction number

^Don’t quote me, but isn’t your Georgetown ID the same as your application #?

if it is then why does it ask for my Georgetown ID AND my Application ID Number separately?

I was also waitlisted at GU. I listed my applicant ID # as the first set of numbers they list on the waiting list response and then I listed by GU ID # as the second set of numbers they list after the backslash. I hope those were the right numbers.

Georgetown was also my top choice, if I had gotten in I would go in a heartbeat.

@rower17: Thanks for your help! I think that the number on our waitlist response is just our application number because we were given our georgetown ID number after we submitted our application. If i were accepted, i would definitely go as well. What school did you apply to?

Does anyone think I have a better shot at getting off the wait list (assuming they have any available spots come May) if I don’t need FA?

Anyone know what this year’s acceptance rate was for Georgetown?Don’t seem to be finding it anywhere, most of the other big schools have already published their numbers.

The acceptance rate hit an “all-time low” of 16.5% this year.
