Waitlisted for Housing

Hey so I applied to UBC (Sauder) and got in, but apparently I never filled out my housing residence application and now have “waitlisted” under Vancouver campus. If I go to UBC, I’ll need to live in residence, so should I email the housing office, or…?

My D was accepted to UBC Sauder as well. Congrats to you; it’s tough to get in and a great accomplishment. As for housing, she applied before the deadline (you can too since it’s March 1) and was waitlisted too. Freshmen are guaranteed residence housing as long as they apply in time and accept the offer in time. Where else are you considering?

UofT and some schools in the States right now. Thanks so much
As for the application for housing, when I click the button for “apply to housing” it takes me to a page where it says 2015/2016 Winter Session and then says that I’m waitlisted. But I never fully filled out the form and all that, and I thought the deadline was later (like you said March 1 or May 1). Some of my friends who haven’t even heard back from the admissions say that their housing is showing wait-listed too.
Just want to know if this is normal, or if I should look for places to live…

On the UBC website, they say this:

Live in residence
All first-year students (who graduate from high school) are guaranteed a place in student housing on our Vancouver or Okanagan campuses as long as you apply by the deadline. You must apply for residence by May 1 and accept UBC’s offer of admission by June 1. Residence offers will be sent via email, so check your email regularly.

To get information on the different residences and meal plans, housing fees, or the status of your housing application, visit the Housing website for UBC’s Vancouver or Okanagan campus.

So I think you are safe. Maybe a call to admissions will ease your fears. UBC is pretty respected in the U.S. but still relatively unknown outside academia and employers. What’s its reputation and specifically that of Sauder in Canada?

The waitlist advisement is now gone. It might have been something temporary as they were loading a bunch of data.
