Both of these schools gave me no further instructions, just that I wait until they tell me if I made it off the waitlist or not. So should I send them anything, (update on accomplishments, 1st semester grades, etc)? Or am I supposed to write my appeal so I have better chances of getting off the waitlist?
If neither school has any further instructions for waitlisted applicants, then you just opt in and wait.
San Diego will only allow appeals from students who were denied admission. Applicants offered a waitlist space may not appeal.
Irvine will allow waitlisted applicants to appeal only if they opt-in to the waitlist. If a student’s appeal is denied, they may remain on the waitlist.

@Gumbymom So how exactly would I go about appealing? And do you know if “unsuccessfully” appealing will affect my chances of getting off the waitlist? Thanks for the reply
If you appeal UCI, it will not affect the waitlist if is not successful but UCSD will not consider an appeal from a waitlisted applicant.
Here is the information for UCI:
