Waitlisted for UCSD (/_\)

Hi,

So I'm feeling kinda bummed out... I got waitlisted for UCSD when my dream school is UC Berkeley.

I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me if I have a chance at Berkeley or LA...

My counselor, who has done application review for ucla, like my personal statements and had no suggestions for improvement.

Chosen major: biological sciences (genetics)

Sorry, I know it's a lot of stuff to read, I'm just really freaking out now, I have no idea whether or not I'll even get into one of my dream schools :(

Omg that’s so sad, IDK why you were waitlisted! That 2230 is very commendable indeed. This ■■■■ is so random sometimes so don’t take it too seriously. It’s not like the UC’s collaborate or anything so we can assume decisions are independent of one another. Those 6 B’s must’ve screwed you up a lot.

Stay optimistic and hope for the best. There are simply more qualified kids than spots at top schools. All 30,000 high schools in the US have one or more valedictorians. There are lots of kids with good grades. While you are waiting for more letters, read Gadwell’s David & Goliath. You have the horsepower and drive to succeed. It just may be that you will do so at a Univ that was not your first choice. Or, you may get into Berkeley and you laugh about getting a “No” from UCSD. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies! Apparently a lot of people have been rejected from ucsd but accepted to ucla in the past, so I guess I’ll just hope for the best :)

I am so confused, there are 3 kids at my school who have been accepted to UCSD but their academics/extracurricular activities are far from yours! Man, that sucks, makes me wonder what’s going to happen to me next year… But I hope you get into UCLA/Berkeley! Best of luck!

I am in the exact same place as you @speckle wait listed to UCSD but Berkeley or UCLA are preferred choice

It’s nice to know that someone is in the same boat as me! We shall make it out alive, young traveler!!

@spekle I got wait listed as well. Screw it, right? Cal and Berkeley, here we come!

Okay, so I just found out that a bunch of people who were really qualified got wait listed and apparently a lot of people are confused at the outcome… so maybe UCSD is just being weird o_O There’s really no rhyme or reason for these things, it also depends on who is reviewing your application… So yes diabl0!! Cal and Berkeley could be excepting us right this very minute! XD

It is also due to the fact that there are lots of applicants with grades, scores and ec’s very similar to yours. They can’t accept everyone who is qualified - not enough room for you all.

rejected from ucla… fingers crossed for berkeley!

Sorry i never updated this!! I got into Cal  Never get discouraged if you don’t get into your safety school because you really can never tell which schools will accept you!

Your original post astonished me, because my son got into UCSD from out-of-state with much lower stats than yours. He was not applying to an impacted program, but it still surprised me. He did not get into Cal, though.

OOS is the key.

How much of a help would you say it is to be OOS?

Who knows but it doesn’t hurt.
