Waitlisted for UCSD. What do I do?

I've been waitlisted for UCSD and I'm really disappointed. I'm not sure what to do. Is it worth it to write the 200 word essay to reserve my spot on the waitlist?

Also, how does the UCSD waitlist work? I understand that admission depends on how many students submit SIRs in May, but what is my position on the waitlist based off of? My scores? How quickly I submit the 200 word essay?

Please give me advice!

I’m waitlisted for ucsd too (biochem.) It just depends on how much you want to go, no matter the chance. You sound like you really care about going. To me, I just did the essay because I’m still interested in ucsd. Why not just try? Also tell them that ucsd is your dream school and you’ll go if admitted.
Apparently 1500 people were waitlisted for ucsd (idk if that’s true but…) I don’t know the answers to your other questions
I’m rooting for you! Good luck!

You should.

Your chance of getting off the waitlist may be quite substantial.
Why? First, UCSD has a high turnover rate in terms of acceptances. Second, at least a good half of waitlistees will not write the waitlist essay and therefore will not be in competition with you if you were to sign up for the waitlist.

I, for example, will most likely not SIR to UCSD come this May. A waitlistee will then take my place. That waitlistee could potentially be you.

Please repost on the UCSD forum.
