Waitlisted from Parsons

Hello. So i've been waitlisted from my top dream school, Parsons. and I am completely devestated. I never thought I'd be wait listed from Parsons because I'm pretty confident in my portfolio. I went in for an interview and they really liked my work. They said I had talent and fufilled all their requirements, but...they said it was my grades/SATs that got me in the mess of a waitlist. Also timing was bad as well (I finished apply late Jan)

So I just want to know...honestly, what are my chances of getting in? Has anyone here or know anyone that's been waitlisted from parsons but still got in? I don't know anyone else that's been waitlisted, and their website has no information on it whatsoever...So I feel completely hopeless :( please help. Should I keep hope, or should I give up?

and also, if I do end up rejected, do you think it's worth it to goto FIT for two years, get my AAS degree in fashion design and then transfer to Parsons to get my BFA? (even if i have to start as a freshman all over again) is it worth all that money and time? :( I don't know what to do. I can't imagine myself anywhere else but Parsons.... it sounds irrational, but ..i cant let it go :{

parsons doesn't accept junior level transfers. you can't go to FIT and get your aa and expect to transfer in to finish your BFA, their curriculum is different.

i'm imagining you can only transfer in at the sophomore level after you've done your "foundation" year at another school, or have taken similar classes at a community college.

You may want to pursue admissions to another equally good school such as Otis College of Art & Design, whose foundation year would probably be the same at Parsons, and whose fashion program is just as strong.

Yes, I know I can't transfer in as a junior, I meant transfering in as a freshman for foundations. Since I can't fufill all 18 studio art credits at FIT (which parsons requires in order to transfer)... theres no way I can transfer in as a junior, or even a sophomore. and FIT is basically the only other option for me right now...

but i was wondering if it's worth it? two years at FIT with an AAS.. going in as a freshman to Parsons for a BFA.. is that weird? + too much?

I just really want to know my chances of getting into Parsons..

you still couldn't transfer in as a freshman, they're very specific courses in foundation year, it's just not whatever studio art credits you choose.

the studio classes you'll take at fit will end up being fashion, which wont qualify to transfer

but if i transfer in as a freshman... I thought it's regardless of whichever college i went to before? since it's a freshman transfer, wouldnt it be equivalent to a first time freshman applicant from hs? Since I wouldnt be transfering any credits from FIT anyway, besides liberal art credits....

anyways... NO ONE knows of any wait listed parsons applicant besides me ..who got in/rejected?? any stories at all? :(

I wouldn't give up on Parson's. It's an odd year - I think more people this year, because of the way the economy is going, are rethinking the wisdom of taking huge loans for art degrees (or any degree for that matter), and may end up choosing an art degree at their local State U or choose whichever art school is offering the most money in scholarships, rather than their first choice or best fit. In addition, with home equity shrinking and the stock market down, parents just have less cash now than they had just six months ago, and may not want to tap it in a down market. And, there will be people who just decide to play it safe and study nursing instead.

So, all in all, I predict that wait list you're on being tapped. Let the office know you're still VERY interested and keep updating them with any new portfolio-quality work.

ahh, i see!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! that helps me out a lot :D and yeah, I am DEFINITELY sending a whole bunch of new work in very soon.

just out of curiosity... would it be too much to ask your gpa? parsons is one of my top choices, and im afraid mine just wont be up to par. mine's about a 3.3, 3.4. im a pretty average b student.

i got in!!!!!!!!! finally accepted from the waitlist!!!

congratulations!
