On Monday I was waitlisted by Vandy (my top choice), and I want to get off. Here are some questions I have about getting off waitlists in general:

Does it help to have an unusual talent/EC? I'm a breakdancer, and I'm wondering if I'd have a better chance of getting off the waitlist than someone with a more common EC focus, like tennis or something.

Should I send in a letter of recommendation from a senior year teacher who really likes me? I've read that it's not a good idea to send in extra material, because admissions offices are already busy enough. Still, it seems to me that anything to help my case would be worth a shot.

Should I get my GC to advocate for me as well?

In my school's history, 4 people have been waitlisted in the past and 3 of them successfully got off the waitlist in the past (the other person was probably courtesy waitlisted because he/she had really low stats). Also, Vandy usually accepts a lot of people from my school. How much will the good relationship that Vandy has with my HS help my chances?

Should I get my GC to advocate for me as well?

How much do geography/race matter? For example, is Vandy more likely to pick people from underrepresented states and people who are URMs?

Thanks in advance!
