Waitlisted gloom

Who feels disappointed about being waitlisted? It seems like many of us were waitlisted. Anyone know how many people are waitlisted from past years?

Definitely feeling the gloom here as well, but what is more depressing to me is that I was apparently only offered a place on the regular waitlist, not the priority one. Can anyone shed some light on this? Have they had this in years before, and am I utterly doomed to be accepted off of the normal waitlist?

I got waitlisted. I think there's only one waitlist... I also got rejected from Duke. Fun day..

sorry, there's two waitlists. one is priority one is the regular waitlist. not sure how many are on the priority though.

Sooo... Anyone planning to write a letter to Rice or anything? :O

My problem is that I really can't say that Rice is my #1 choice- I have never visited, so I honestly don't KNOW. My plan was to get accepted then visit to see if I like it enough to go there. We can see how well that plan worked lol.

So I'm not really sure what I would say? Should I go there anyway (note location)? That seems kind of masochistic. I already had an alumni interview, so . . .

What exactly should I do?

does anyone know someone who was waitlisted and got in? if so, was there a special way?

I'll post this here, in case you missed it on the other thread..

This year is ANYONE's guess! If you are at all interested in attending Rice, STAY ON THE WAITLIST. You can always decline if they offer you a place and you don't want it. This year everything is in flux especially with the changes in financial aid policies at lots of the top schools, and the removal of ED at some schools and ID at Rice. Also, Rice is increasing enrollment -- all these uncertainties mean that Rice may pull heavily from the waitlist or not at all. There is no way to tell until kids make their commitments to their schools, and then the summer melt happens. There have been several posters on the Rice website who were accepted off the waitlist and are very happy; once you get to Rice, it doesn't matter HOW you got there - with a likely letter or off a waitlist or as a transfer student. You are welcomed, just the same.
Good luck to all!

I just got waitlisted as well...I've never heard of the two waitlists though. How do you know which one you're on?

on the application status online, it says either waitlist or priority waitlist

I was admitted off the (regular) waitlist two years ago. It's actually kind of nice to get a personal call from the admissions counselor. As for what you can do to help you get accepted, I wouldn't be the one to ask. I didn't do anything aside from replying positively to an e-mail they sent me (in April, I think).

i wasn't too disappointed to be on the waitlist. More like a slap to my ego.
lol.

I was taken off the waitlist two years ago, as well. That call from Amy Atcheson was pretty sweet.

Being waitlisted is fine! Some of my closest friends were waitlisted...

I'm waitlisted at Rice and getting the feeling I will be rejected at all the remaining schools. I am lucky that I'm accepted at UCLA.

Dorian_Mode, what email are you talking about? I have recently participated in some spring extracurriculars and have won some awards not mentioned on my college application...should I email them and notify them to add that to my app? Also, I've tried searching for which waitlist I'm on, but I don't know where it is. Can anyone help?

It was simply an e-mail asking if I was still interested in Rice. I honestly did nothing else.

katia11, I am in the same exact situation.
I know Rice is high on my list, and I was hoping to visit after getting accepted... and it's even more aggravating that I'm getting waitlisted EVERYWHERE! well, I have the UCs to fall back on.
But I don't know whether to visit, or even if that would be easy to arrange.

I don't think my decision said anything about priority or regular waitlist. The e-mail did say I was an "alternate," though. Does that indicate which waitlist I'm on?

if it said "Candidate offered position on waitlist" on your application status, you're on the regular waitlist. If it said "Candidate offered position on priority waitlist", you're on the priority waitlist

All I know is that the priority only have 24 hours to respond. However, I've been chatting with the admissions office. I was told that being waitlisted wasn't the end of the road.
