I have been waitlisted. Would it improve my chances if I contact the soccer coaches and tell them about my credentials, and my interest in playing on the varsity team.
I’m an international applicant, if that matters in any way.

Thanks

Sure. The Ivies have waitlists (or "B lists") for recruited athletes too, since the "A list" recruits are not bound to attend (unless the school has lured them into applying ED) and can, at times, defect to "the competition."

If the coach finds out one or more of his recruits are lost either to unexpected rejection by the admissions office, or later to waitlist appropriation by a rival, he/she may go to the "B list" and try and get the admissions office to help out.

If you want to make it onto the soccer "B list" you will need the coach's support.
