@niceshoes23 – I know, right? I was thinking we should go visit the folks on the U Penn WL board who are also suffering along with us. I really don’t expect good news, but it is so hard to wait every day to see if I am rejected yet.
For some reason, I don’t think there are that many of us left, so maybe our chances for z-list aren’t that bad! At least that’s what I keep telling myself The lack of closure is the worst.
I don’t think we’ll hear until this Friday or next Monday, by when the second wave acceptances have to respond to Harvard’s offer. If some of them reject, then there might still be a chance of admission into the Class of 2022. If not, they’ll probably move to the z-list.
@taylorharry I totally agree. That’s my sad point!
I am painfully aware why my daughter is holding out hope for Harvard. She seems to have convinced herself it’s the only place she will be happy. Perceived expectations and self imposed pressures, make it worse. While I spend considerable energy trying to convince her otherwise, at least her position is well informed given the perspectives learned from myself, my wife, and her two older siblings. What I CANT get my arms around are why so many people seem so SINGULARLY focused on Harvard. Willing to take a gap year, endure this tortuous wait, etc. Are the other Ivies perceived as such a drop off? As a person who has actively recruited for a top tier consulting firm, I can attest there are no differences in the “quality” of bright graduates. Good luck. I hope you all get the result you are seeking. But if you don’t, it will be ok.
@Chalupa911 – I don’t think it’s that we are so focused on Harvard or don’t like our other choices. Probably all of us have great alternatives. My alternative is a top science program that might even be a better fit for me. It’s just that we worked hard, applied almost 8 months ago and are still here. I fully expect to be rejected every day at 7 pm. I would have loved to attend but realize that it is almost certainly impossible at this point. Yet we are here because we have not yet been rejected and it’s hard not to wonder after all this time. This website is the only source of any news at all in months and months. Also, I don’t talk about the wait list with any of my friends in real life. I don’t even know if anyone at my school knows I am still on it. So coming here is the only place to think about it at all.
Good luck to your daughter.
Well said @MomLA2018
@gibby do you think people remaining are in the running for the z list?
how many of you are left?
Well, I am not wealthy or a legacy. Hope they broaden Z List scope.
When is the last time you guys sent an update/ would it be worth to send another?
@taylorharry – I sent an update with my Graduation Awards. It was just two sentences. That was my second update. The first was my LOCI in early April. If you have an idea for an update, I would send it. I have no idea if they will read it, but they might. Also, it shows some continuing interest. Many on the list may have moved on in their minds even if they didn’t withdraw.
@MomLA2018 Neither am I! Not wealthy or legacy… Time will tell. I wonder how many people are lurking behind the scenes, i.e. not posting vs posting on here, so it’s hard to guess how many people are still out there!
I have until Friday to accept my spot off the waitlist (I got off last friday) so maybe the next wave if there is one will be Monday.
also, if you are z-listed, make sure it is really in you’re best interest to defer for a year. I’m sure the other school you committed to is exceptional as well, so just be sure to think things through and don’t let the name Harvard Sway you, make sure Harvard is the right fit.
@collegecrazy2017. Thanks! That’s what I’ve been trying to express all along. Deciding to take a gap year is a big deal. It’s a life decision, not a form of trophy hunting or a way to appease insane parents seeking status or validation of years of dreaming.
Many kids still hanging around here have already weighed gap year options, understanding that the w/l may mean z list. My own dd would welcome a non-academic year. From the perspective of many of our friends whose kids have gapped, it is very beneficial. They are not only Harvard z-listers, but regular admit U Chicago, Trinity, Princeton, Yale, Middlebury, even Ohio Wesleyan. Not everyone is trophy hunting or appeasing insane parents seeking status or validation of years of dreaming. Life is very long, so what if people are still on here wondering if they might get in? Someone got in last Friday, and Harvard is known to keep accepting thru June. It’s not like it’s August, even July where yes, shut it down. Until then until Harvard says no, it ain’t no
@jrug1111 Exactly!
Also, it’s not like anyone had to give up anything to stay on wait list. It’s free. You don’t need to pull other applications. There is no downside and you get to come here and meet nice people like @niceshoes23, @scienceabc1 and @taylorharry and the others in our gang!
what about chanrooster??? I’m still here because, ridiculously, I now feel attached and hopeful for those who remain! I want to see the outcome!
