Waitlisted help

what is the difference? how can they give a priority wait list and a regular waitlist? they can't possibly admit that many people from a waitlist in general

I'm on the priority waitlist. I wonder what percentage of people that are wait-listed are on the priority one.

Don't they draw about a fifth of their class from the waitlist?

Last year looks like less than 10 from the waitlist, the year before 100+. Word has it they they overenrolled last year. Of course this is all hearsay. Am hoping they were concerned about that this year and may have to go deeper to the waitlist because they played it safe.
Congrats to all who were accepted - tough competition this year, you really must have stood out. Good for you all!!!

Offered position on waitlist

Deferred ED and now waitlisted

wondering about whether I will get in somewhere else...
:|

D's email letter says:

The Committee on Admission has just completed a most careful evaluation of your application for admission to Rice. You have been selected as an alternate for the class of 2013, and I have been authorized to offer you a place on the waiting list for the fall of 2009. While we recognize this decision is not what you were hoping for, we want you to know that you are among a small group who will receive priority consideration for spaces that become available after May 1.

How do we check our admission's status?

Hmm...my waitlist letter says: "While we recognize this is not what you were hoping for, we want you to know that the decision was not easily reached."

It doesn't say anything about "a small group who will receive priority consideration"

dang.. i was waitlisted too.

Is there any correlation between priority vs. regular waitlist and whether of not you applied RD or ED? Like, is priority for RD and non-priority for ED applicants?

D is RD and priority waitlist

i'm RD and not on priority

so from what I understand, there is not difference between "priority" waitlist and regular waitlist?

@ bounce009: that's what I understood too, but I'm still confused.

im a little miffed about this priority waitlist business.

mainly because in my waitlist letter, rice claimed that they "do not rank" their waitlist. This, apparently, is not a true statement. Sure, we may not be individually ranked, however they have designated a section of the waitlist as having priority consideration i.e. ranked above other waitlist candidates.

I have no problem at all with Rice creating a priority waitlist, but I am offended by Rice speaking half truths to the rest of the waitlistees.

From reading priority waitlist vs. waitlist of other schools, I've read that priority waitlisted students must accept admission? That's what I read on the Carnegie Mellon forum (after a google search). There is no description at all on the Rice website so I"m confused.

do not worry, you would be accepted by RICE or others or even better colleges.

I was waitlisted by Tulane Univeristy, then again waitlisted by WUSL; I thought
I have no hope for other colleges, but today, RICE came, it gives me the hope for
DARTMOUTH, BROWN, UPENN, DUKE, ....

We are all well-round high school students , we deserve to be accepted by
the colleges in our dreams.

GOD BLESS YOU !

but honestly say, I like RICE better than UPENN and DUKE because they are too big.

No. Accepting a spot on the waitlist is NOT BINDING you to attend. You are just saying that you are still interested in attending. You do not have to attend if/when they offer you a spot.
Rice is a smallish school and has to rely on a waitlist to make sure they don't over-enroll. Last year, they only took a very few students off the waitlist, but this year, with THIS economy - is anyone's guess. If you are on the waitlist, don't give up!

To clarify: it only says "priority waitlist" if you check your application status on their website using the link they sent us a couple months ago. Otherwise, I don't think is specifys it in the e-mail is sounds like people recieved.
