I was deferred and then waitlisted from Georgia Tech. I just got off the phone with my admission counselor who gave me some valuable information about being waitlisted at GA Tech:

Around 3800 applicants were waitlisted.
Fewer than half are expected to accept spot on the waitlist.
GA Tech does not rank their waitlist; when they discover they have spots they go through the list again with a committee and decide what students they will offer admission.
They have no idea what their numbers will be; the admission officer told me they were "blown away" by the number of applicants, and have their internal estimates but only time will tell what actually happens.
By May 2nd they will generally start making phone calls.

Hope this helps you with your college planning.

My school doesn’t do GPA, only A Levels… But I was below average in percentile grade (my school is extremely high achieving). Sats I 2210, Sats II: 770 chem, 770 math, 750 bio.

Oh, and I am an international student haha.

Can anyone who has a twitter account tweet GA Tech admissions how many people enrolled by now? They tweeted today they already have people from 800 High schools enrolled. worried that waitlist people won’t even have a shot this year.

My daughter was notified today that she is accepted. She was given two business days to respond. White from Texas. SAT 610 reading and 750 math. 30 ACT with 34 English and 32 Math. 710 math2 sat subject test. Top 25 percent of HS class. She has decided to go to UT Austin.

@Dallas14 Wait really? How come they got you off the waitlist soo early? Do you know? Did you do anything… I really want to go there. Did they call you or e-mail you? Thanks!

My daughter got an email only around 11:00 a.m. It said : congratulations! We are happy to offer you acceptance to the 2014 freshman class! It went on to say to reply to Val Mack within 2 business days if she chooses to accept. After that it says a official acceptance letter will be sent. They are obviously are pulling kids from the wait list already.

My daughter got a voicemail saying GT made a limited number of admission offers this week to beat the May 1 deadline. It mentioned that they sent an email with instructions. It didn’t say how many folks got an offer.

I also received the offer (I saw the email when I was texting on my phone during school at around noon). This leads me to believe that getting off the waitlist may be contingent upon geography (two of my best friends who got in withdrew their applications last night and told me). Today, me and a classmate of mine got in. However, this may have only been a coincidence.
