Waitlisted information

Considering GT only grant 2 days to make decision. I guess they will continue to make certain offers through end of April. There were 100 off list last year, we hope and expect more than 100 this year since it is their 1st year for Common App. My 2 cents…

Does anyone know if we need to pay commit deposit and housing right away if we accept the offer ? Or only commit deposit ?

Son received an email offer and phone call today. He is excited. However, like with most students in this boat; we are now trying to contact the financial aid office to see what, if anything, is left. That is a very significant factor in his decision. He has to decide in 2 business days…geeze! Either way, we are extremely proud of him.
We are out of state.
Wish the best to all who were waitlisted!

@cjmomo4 Congrats! This is getting me disappointed since I didn’t get anything. Do you mind sharing your stats and information? Thanks!

Also, although the financial aid for waitlist students is going to be low I mean it would come back to normal starting from next year right? First year might be more expense than the other three years. So, why worry about aid? Just curious.

@cjmomo4 Congrats on your son ! I believe I ever saw somewhere at GT’s site that there will be limited merit fund available for OOS wait list students. But I think it should not affect federal grant and loan. Yes, you better ask them upfront…Good luck!

Also to those who got off the waitlist, what does it say on when you log onto buzzport? Does the waitlist letter go away? Do you have the fourth tab? Are you able to go to the Bursar pay option? Thanks!

@Father12345 I’m OOS, URM, 3.53 GPA, and 31 ACT (34 E, 33 M, 32 R)
@agg999 The waitlist letter is still there.

For those asking what the email said:
"Decimation,

Congratulations! We are happy to offer you acceptance to the 2014 freshman class! This year’s class will be extremely talented and diverse, and we are fully confident that you will make a tremendous addition. If you choose to accept our offer, please reply to [given email] within two (2) business days. Please include your GTID number in your correspondence.

After we receive your response, we will update your records. Within 24 hours your BuzzPort account will reflect your acceptance information and then you will be able to pay your admission and housing deposits. Shortly thereafter, you will also receive an official acceptance letter in the mail. After you accept your offer, you will have until May 1, the National Deposit Deadline, to submit your deposits for both admission and housing. Please be aware that financial aid for this year is limited. If you have questions regarding financial aid, please contact your financial aid counselor. If you have specific questions about your offer of admission, please contact your admission counselor or call our office at [undergrad office #].
Congratulations! I hope that you will join this outstanding freshman class!
Go Jackets! "

Additionally, the guy who called my house (I think his last name was Briggs) said that they decided to quote “admit a select few students off the waitlist prior to May 1st”, implying that more will probably be coming off in the next couple weeks so don’t be discouraged yet.

I am getting a feeling that the “select few” are either females or URMs.

@agg999 I am as well, seeing as how (I looked him up) Chris Briggs (the one who contacted me) is the assistant director of African American recruitment.

But my friend who also got off the waitlist is Bangladeshi (I hope that’s a word).

My daughter received a call today at 3:00pm offering her admission. She also received an email as well.

I guess they made all the limited offers today.

@agg999 You may be right… But GT may possibly keep making certain offers and grant 2 days decision till end of April if we know other student been off lists today or after. Then from May 2, GT may release major students off lists by batch and grant them 2 weeks decisions time as stated at GT’s site. I may be wrong though …

Thank you for those who shared your updated status to us. My son is OOS and we will need to pay $600 deposit to another college if we don’t hear from GT by 4/30. Please kind enough to let us know any update if anyone does get email from GT…It will alleviate our stress a lot…Congrats and thanks!

anyone get offers today?

So anyone at all got an offer after Wed.?

To the people who got off the waitlist: are you enrolling at GA Tech?

I’m enrolling. I only got exactly 30% of my financial need though but my parents are going to try to work it out for me.

@Decimation‌ Wait, so they didn’t cover everything else with loans at least?

Nope. :-</p>

@Decimation‌ curious to know: will your aid be good again starting from the second year? Is your EFC lower than 5000? If so, that sucks! Is it that worth it in that case? I mean if your EFC is above 10000, I guess you are well-off at least for the first year.

Every family is different. Just because a families EFC is above $10,000 doesn’t mean they are well off or that they are going to be able to come up with that $10,000 a year. I hope it works out for you Decimation.

umm… I was just curious and that is just what I think. Decimation said he can pay it, so I made a few assumptions. sheesh!

^ I didn’t mean to make it sound like I was criticizing you. It’s just that as a parent I’ve seen what our EFC is and it’s just not realistic. I assume there are a number of other families in the same boat.
