Waitlisted - NASS

We found out last week that we are waitlisted for USNA SS. I guess this could be worse, but it would be nice to know for sure for planning purposes. Does anyone have any idea what % of the waitlisted candidates in the past have been offered a slot? We are prepared and "standing by" to attend any of the three sessions. Would welcome any insight from others who have gone through this. Thanks!

One of my squad mates at NASS 07 had been waitlisted. He had many people write him letters of recommendation and the Academy called him the day before session 1 started and he jumped on a plane (from Oklahoma) and attended. I recently found out that he received his appointment for the class of 2012.

DD was waitlisted for NASS last year. She called and said she would be interested in a last-minute call if someone cancelled. We received the call at 9:00pm on the first day of the NASS session. We were asked if we could get to USNA by noon the next day. She checked in at 11:00am on day 2 and she's now an appointee for class of 2012! Stay home and answer your phone!!

I always envied people that went to NASS; don't stress if you don't get in -- your kid has got a shot at the big deal regardless. Just do a candidate visit and bring your questions!

That said -- I hope your kid gets a slot!

It is important to understand that not being accepted at NASS does not harm your chances of an appointment to USNA. NASS is in part a mechanism for potential students to see what USNA is like and in part a recruiting tool. Thus, being accepted to NASS doesn't mean you'll receive an appointment nor does not being accepted to NASS mean you won't. In the same vein, many people who don't even apply to NASS receive apppointments.

NASS is a great experience and highly recommended for anyone considering USNA or any SA. But, if you weren't accepted and still dream of attending USNA or another SA, PLEASE do not give up, assume all is lost, etc. USNA (can't speak for the other SAs) makes clear that not attending NASS will not in any way harm or take away from your chances for an appointment.

USNA1985 is absolutely correct. DS did not get into NASS. (I think first SAT was too low (1190). After a visit, he studied hard for future SAT/ACT, completed his apps, received 3 noms and received his appoinment in January. A classmate who went to SS did not.

I just received my letter yesterday: waitlisted. Does anyone know exactly when they will contact people who are waitlisted and of how many are waitlisted, how many usually go to the summer seminar?
