Waitlisted...need advice!

I was waitlisted at a school I really want to go to. im wondering when people normally find out if they get in after being waitlisted? And is it worth it to wait to choose a school because I want to wait to see if I get in from the wait list? Thanks for the help

You need to SIR to another school by May 1. Most likely you will not hear about the waitlist decision until after that deadline since the school needs to know how many applicants will be enrolling and how many spots are available. You will loose your deposit at the first school, if you are accepted at the waitlist school.

You need to look at the Common Data Set for your school to see if they even use the WL and how much. Plus you need to talk to your GC to see about contacting them to express your interest. Also as was already said, you need to put a deposit someplace by May 1

Schools aren’t going to go to their waitlists until AFTER May 1 - when they find out how many of their offers of admission have been accepted.

Looking at historical trends of waitlists is of limited use since it varies yearly. Like others have said, secure a spot among those that accepted you. Concurrently, accept a spot on the 1st school’s waitlist. If they come later with an offer, re-examine your situation and compare it to what you’ve already chosen. If it’s categorically better, accept the offer. If not, decline.

You lose your deposit only if you back out later to accept the 2nd offer. There’s no harm in being on the WL – you’re not committed even if they offer you later – thus, there is no “cost”. Most colleges will indicate when the WL formally closes and no further offers will be made.

Definitely google "Common Data Set " and search for wait-list and see how many people they took last year. THhat will give you an idea.

@freshman2019 - please be sure to pay a deposit to another school. Your WL school should have been very clear on this. Be pleased with your 2nd choice because one never knows what happens year to year with WL. Good luck. I’m glad you have options.
