Hi! So basically I got waitlisted to UCSD, and I was wondering what my chances were for getting in.

I know that last year they didn't except anyone from their waitlist (I know most UC's don't, apart from SB and Davis), but I really want to go to this school, so I was just wondering again if I should hold on to hope, or just move on....

Also, here's some info:

Accepted: Riverside, Santa Barbara
Waitlisted: San Diego (obv.), Davis
Rejected: Irvine

Gpa: 3.15 UW 3.3 W (yeah, i know, i'm lazy and i went to a hard highschool too..)
SAT: 1960
Extra cirriculars: umm, not many. :/

Major: Film and Media Studies (though, I planned to change this once I got in, because I'm unfortunately no longer interested in this area of study..)

And I feel like I wrote a really good essay.

Hi ilovetoparty, I have some good and bad news for you. First the bad news, it is unlikely that UCSD will accept many off the waitlist this year, but if they do, they do it based on rankings. Given the stats that you provided, I highly doubt that you will rank amongst the upper half of those who were waitlisted. With that said, you probably won’t get into UCSD. (I’m sorry if I sound rude or condescending, It’s not my intention and I’m just giving you my opinion.) However, the GOOD news is that you got into UCSB which is still a good school! Since you like to party (i’m assuming this is the case from your name) and UCSB is more or less a “party school” (although still academic!) I think you will fit in splendidly there! Anyway, I hope I’m wrong and you do get into UCSD! Good luck!

I would count waitlist as rejected since there is no guarantee which means you cannot count on them … when they waitlist you and finally let you in, which means 99% of people are better qualify than you, I am not so sure I want to go to a place like that …

Don’t think of it like that. If you do get in, it’s not like anyone will care how qualified you were before college. It’s a level playing field once you’re accepted.

And I wouldn’t completely give up hope since UCSD increased enrollment goals by 100, but I also would count on it. SIR to Santa Barbara and realize that you’ll love it there!
