How do they pick people from the waitlist? Do they re-evaluate all the people from the specific major that has an opening or what? Or do they just draw a name?

I got waitlisted from UVA Engineering... What are my chances of actually getting in? I'm so confused I don't know what to do. This is the only school that I have been waitlisted at that matters to me... :(

They basically have 8 categories for the waitlist (IS and OOS for all the different schools, you’ll be in the E-school category), and after they get responses from everyone who has been accepted, they will move to the waitlist in order to maintain the 2:1 IS:OOS ratio. There’s not really any way to tell your chances of actually getting in, some times they take 50 people from the waitlist, sometimes they take 250. But Dean J said that this year the waitlist was significantly smaller so there’s less people in limbo…unfortunately you’re one of them. Keep an eye on the blog, she said she’d make a post addressing the waitlist soon, or you could do a search on the blog for waitlist and take a look at last year’s post. Most of the things are probably similar/still applicable. Hope it all works out for you.
