Waitlisted NYU students

Hey everybody,

I just got waitlisted by NYU and JHU. For NYU, I applied in the economics/mathematics major.

Did anybody else get waitlisted?

3.9, 4.4 GPA. ACT 29 (math 35) SAT 1910
band, track

How is NYU's past wait list acceptance rate?

Waitlisted from Stern.
3.96/4.44 GPA at time of application
1440/2130 SAT
good, not amazing, EC’s

I’ve heard that almost all private schools (except prob the top notch ones like MIT and Harvard) this year are gonna be accepting a bunch of people from their wait lists simply because (with the economy as crappy as it is) most people can’t afford their schools and are looking at cheaper, public schools instead. As for NYU’s past wait list acceptance rate specifically, I’m not exactly sure - I’ve read/heard different percentages.

Waitlisted from Tisch Film… D:

3.68/4.3 GPA now and 3.70 when I applied.
1870 SAT
Pretty good college essays and great recommendations

Although my grades and SAT score were nowhere near stellar, I think it was my application film in my portfolio that made them REALLY consider me. It was pretty brilliant, and I’m still kind of bewildered that I didn’t get in with my portfolio. They rejected another kid in my grade from Tisch film who had an SAT score above 2000 and a higher GPA than me, but a mediocre portfolio. So, I’m pretty grateful right now haha

i was waitlisted at CAS as an english major.
i got a 2120 on my sats (low math and high reading and english)
94 gpa at a good hs
i’m confused because i’ve read that people who are denied at CAS are sometimes offered spots in LSP? if you’re waitlisted does that not apply?

2120s unite!

all LSP spots have been filled already. no waitlisted applicants will be offered a spot in LSP.

I got the same score, 1910 and got into LSP

What are you guys doing to get off the wait list?

well, i was accepted, but i’m turning down my admission due to horrid finaid (as i’m sure many people are)…good luck waitlistees!!! I was waitlisted at other schools, hopefully those will work out, but, as of now, i’m going to Rutgers

I got an 1810, 29 ACT, and was accepted to LSP. LSP is for ppl that are denied to CAS. they accept 1,000 of the denied students to LSP

I got a 89.6% unweighted average and got accept directly to CAS. My SAT scores were ~2300 for two of them. Subject tests were 800 and 790. I am surprised I didn’t get waitlist/GSP/LSP. You guys have wonderful stats. I applied as a freshman math major.

you got a 2300 + 800 + 790… what do you mean you were surprised you didn’t get waitlisted?

Haha, ya, what Stephen said. My SAT score was low for NYU, but my ACT was right on, which is how I think I got LSP. Also, my ECs, essays, and Recs were good.

My average is much lower than your 3.9-4.0s and I failed gym one semester term. An 89.6 is about a 3.46 GPA. Gym was not factored in my high school average or at least my high school did not.

i’m basically the same way with gym now haha.

good luck to the waitlisters!

Waitlisted from Stern
3.86/4.3 GPA
2040 SAT
My SAT II Subject Test scores sucked haha.
My EC are good. I’m not sure what my recommendations looked like. Essay was good.

I’m still hopeful. I’m probably not going to get any financial aid, but I’m blessed that my parents will be able to pay for it even though I’d rather have them save some money and let me go to Fordham or Northeastern with the money they are giving me.

i have a ACT 27, 1870 SAT, gpa 3.8
everything honors except for spanish, AP calc, ap bio, ap phys
E.C.- band, tennis, art club, key club, national honor society, medical explorers club
volunteer hours: 400+ hours
i got waitlisted, what do you guys think of the chances of me getting in?
i applied to CAS

Has anyone heard back yet?

I’m an international student waitlisted at Stern.
SAT1 - 2050/2400
SAT2 - 2360/2400
One really good teacher recommendation (teacher knew me really well) and another that was average. Pretty good counselor recommendation.
EC is not that outstanding but I’ve got a strong academic record (which we all know can’t take you far with an average EC)
So I think it was really my EC that pulled me down. I didn’t apply for financial aid btw.

i got a message from an admissions person today to call back so.
