Waitlisted on BUS-X230...really frustrated situation

I got very frustrated today....I enrolled in X220 (Career perspective lecture) this morning but found out all X230 (lab) sessions are full...If I can not finish this course in the first semester of my junior year (Fall 2008), I have to take I-Core in my senior year and I will not be able to graduate within 4 years.....stay here for another semester just because I was not quick enough to register a course?...To make this worse...If I graduate in fall, I will have to wait half a year in order to apply for graduate school that offers MS of Finance/Accounting, because many of these programs don't offer spring admission.....I wanna cry....

Do you guys think if I tell my situation to my adviser or career department, they will put me into a lab session? Anyone has the similar situation with me?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...Thanks!

Just email them, they usually will open slots up later, thats what happened to me. No worries

Last semester all the X230 sections had 26 or 31 students. Fall 2008’s schedule the x230 sections are all either 14 or 8 students. I would bet that the sections have small enrollment at first to distribute the section populations equally. I’m guessing that all of the sections will be expanded to around thirty when they are all full at 14. Some of the sections currently at 14 are in the same classrooms (see room BU 304) that had 26 last year. And the big X220 sections aren’t even close to their capacity, so I’m sure each X230 will be increased. You might get on the waitlist for a section that fits your schedule and whose current enrollment + current waitlist does not exceed 26. I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

I noticed that of all the huge psychology 101 sections, that the one taught by Vlachos-Weber had at least 50 enrollees before some sections had even one. No doubt it was grade shopping by upperclassmen, as she is by far the easiest grader of all the P101 instructors. Anyway, in terms of evening population in sections, her name was removed as the instructor from the schedule, probably to suck people into thinking she wasn’t teaching it and getting them to sign up for other sections.

is X230 lab for X220 ?

If yes, then it wouldn’t make sense that they had less seats at the lab than at the lecture..

I’m not familiar with IUB tho

I checked X230 and there were still spots open in one section this morning. Are you sure you are looking at the right place?–or is the problem that the one open section conflicts with another required course?

P.S. My son has also not been able to get all of his required courses (mostly his fault and mine, not the school’s)–and so will have to take I-core in first semester of his senior year. However, that is not preventing him from graduating in 4 years. If you check carefully, it might be possible to still get by in 4 years by moving courses around from the first semester of senior year to the two semesters of your junior year. My son is doing this successfully–although I agree with you that it’s not the best alternative.

Thanks for all replies!!!
I finally enrolled in a X230 session, they opened more spots this Monday.

I think they want to make sure all students who enrolled in lecture session(X220) can get in a X230 session (there are total 32 lab sessions)
