So, I was wait-listed at W&M this year. (3.5 GPA, 2260 SAT, above-average ECs, lots of leadership positions, etc etc) I talked with my counselor about it (a rejection from UVA means W&M is my #1 now) and he recommended writing a letter and following it up with a call. I've sent the letter and am calling later today. Also, a senior year teacher is writing an additional rec on my behalf, which he'll be sending this week.

Anything else I can do to improve my chances? Anyone have past stories about similar situations? Thanks y'all for your help!

Just curious...are you in-state?

If you OOS, your chances of getting off the waitlist are zero to none. They give priority to VA residents.

Well, that's some good news then...I am in-state. Any other sage words of wisdom?

Actually, they will take from the waitlist what they need to balance the instate/outstate. Our OOS student got in off the waitlist last year. Guidance cousnelor made a call and student wrote a letter specifically highlighting things from her overnight and how even though was admitted to UVA knew that W&M was the better fit. Good luck.
