71/2738!? Makes me want to cry. The waitlist discussion thread I posted on post #29 gave me the feeling that most waitlisted CCers were accepted from the list.

I feel like they accept 75 but they CONTACT much more who turn them down in favor of whatever else they have accepted by June.

I would LIKE to think that, but if that were the case they would probably have said “enrolled” not “accept.” BC made the distinction between enroll and accept, but on the link that jlucey539 provided, they do really say “accept.” And on such a popular website with thousands of college profiles just like that, I think they would have their ***** together.

I assure you that 6000 kids this year were not put on the waitlist out of 25000 applicants.

What information from what source makes you so convinced? And hey, I said only a fraction of those 6000 actually accept a place on the waitlist. Not a ridiculous number. I guess the waitlist COULD be proportionately smaller cause of the significant decrease in applications due to the supplement. But then again, it’s their first year trying the supplement out, and they could feel insecure about their yield too.

@Fazo
In BC’s letter, they said they had 2,250 openings. So why would they put 6,000 students on the waiting list LOL

IMO 250 people sounds reasonable to me. People dedicated themselves in writing the supplementary essay just to attend BC, so just shows how much tighter the yield is going to be this year. I think, instead of being insecure, they should be more confident.

Or you’re welcome to call them at 617-552-3100 and ask them :D

How many BC will need to use from their waitlist is dependent on how many of the currently ED/RD admitted students actually accept and enroll.

It may be tough to predict waitlist numbers for this year based on previous years’ numbers - due to the huge drop in applications.

I said 6000 were o.f.f.e.r.e.d. a place on the waitlist, and much less actually accepted a place. Of course BC OFFERED 6000 on purpose, knowing that most of them will turn it down.
250 doesn’t sound like enough to me. They also might have meant that there would be 250 on the waitlist for each school like millertime95 mentioned. Their yield from previous years was hovering around a crusty 25%, imagine how much lower it is for the waiting list. In May- June. When most people have already decided where they’re going. -,-

But jpm50’s right in that the actual size of the waitlist can be anyone’s guess, the whole pool’s only 70% of what is used to be…

I was waitlisted…here are my stats.

31 ACT (34 R 32 E 31 S 27 M) 11/12 Writing
1390 / 2090 sat super score (760R + 630M +
3.5UW GPA (4.0 GPA as senior, 3.8+ GPA as junior, but I had a HORRIBLE GPA as a freshman)

HOOKS: URM, first gen

I applied to CSOM for accounting.

I know it is super difficult to get off the waitlist but i’m trying not to give up hope…the BC waitlist website says not to send any letters and that only peoples prior information will be considered, but surely there are things I can do to increase my chances?

I’ve seen some people say to email your admissions counselor, is that a good idea?

Some of you have impressive stats and surprised you were waitlisted.

@collegetimesfour, I would go ahead and send in info about the FRC placing and the results of your AP scores.

nicolas, if I remember correctly, they’re okay with you sending in spring grades.

Ty for letting me know Fazo.

Feeling a little down / doubtful on the whole idea of BC taking me off of waitlist…i’d be happy beyond belief, stupefied even, but it just seems so improbable.

I’m going to try though.

Dear Joowon/FindmeFazo : The freshman class is always quoted as 2,250 which is the average number - this can go up or down slightly in any given year. The difference in this current recruiting year is that the accepted applicants included the new additional Boston College essay, thereby increasing the serious interest level of candidates to the chagrin of the Wait Listers.

The next serious data point will be the yield come May 1st - which will be driven via financial aid. Now, each year, college confidential is littered with successful BC applicants who have taken financial aid statements of “meeting 100% of demonstrated need” to mean “I am going to BC on a big time grant”. We remind everyone reading this thread that BC is a $50,000/year (and more) institution. Financially planning for those numbers should not have been left to only a financial aid award - yet we will see significant controversy in the next 30 days on this very subject.

Our estimate is that the waitlist will be tapped for no more than 150 possible candidates this season. Therefore, if you are currently waitlisted, be aware to spend your time selecting from amongst your current list of accepted schools.

Here is a pointer to a valuable wait list thread from two years ago. While it’s on the Columbia University forum, the message in it is relevant to all those who are waitlisted.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/columbia-university/1121583-what-waitlist-all-your-questions-answered.html

There is very little in your control to help increase your chance to get off the waitlist.

Yes, I spoke with Admissions today. 7800 acceptance offers, 6000 offered the opportunity to notify BC they would like to be added to the waitlist. Wait list candidates have until May 1 to apply so there is no way to determine whether the waitlist will be 250 or 2500.

See? I don’t just pull these numbers out of my butt.

Any updates guys? Or is it just time to play the waiting game until May 1st?
