Waitlisted People Please Read!

Why would I make this up?

BigG: We are in the same shoes. All I’m trying to do here is to notify you. No one is expecting you to withdraw your ****ing application because of a post in CC. If you 're that stupid, then don’t apply to Duke.

Sophia: Just don’t believe me, but don’t blame me. If you had a piece of brain in your head, you would call the office and learn the truth yourself without wasting your ****ing time here. My post about the acceptance rate was sent in APRIL, not in MAY you American idiot. Learn to read your native language first.

Lastly,
You should learn to appreciate when someone’s trying to help you without any obligations. I’m typing this ****ing post from middle-east, as an international applicant. What the hell can I get by lying here? If you think that people here are lying, then why are you reading these?

em190, calm down, please.

Eek. First, I wasn’t implying em190 was shady or worse. I was just suggesting that the admissions person they spoke to about the WL could maybe-possibly have spoken to soon. Anyway, it turns out Yale isn’t taking anyone from their waitlist and Princeton is only accepting 30. Also, Northwestern is apparently overenrolled, and so Duke may likewise have admitted more than necessary. Schools prepared for a lot of WL action this year but in the end maybe…not so much.

Wow…ok, so I made a stupid mistake. That doesn’t mean I should be called an “American idiot” or that any of these responses were merited. Maybe, like the rest of the people on this particular thread, I’m hoping that Duke does still actually have some space and that this is all made up. I’m seriously rethinking that desire if you guys are the type of people who also may go there…

You accused someone of lying (in quite aggressive language)without particularly thinking or caring to make sure your information was correct. While our responses may have been harsh, they were not worse than what you did.

All of us want to get into Duke. I don’t know if EMo is telling the truth, i havn’t called the admissions office yet, but I’m glad someone is providing some information, albeit not the kind i want to hear.

And don’t try to turn this against us (me and whoever). Like we are some kind of persecutors. You’re going to meet a lot of type of people at wherever you go, so I’m not feeling very guilty about my comment. if you want an isolated life, there are parents who won’t criticize you (usually).

No, my parents criticize me more than most people do. :D

Mayby em190 was told the waitlist is closed because the class quota of international students has been filled and no more internationals will be taken from the waitlst.

Are they going to tell us that they are overenrolled?

bayezid,

Maybe you should ask the admissions officers rather than speculating him (Emo) huh?
Because if you think he used harsh language, then you should have checked if he was right or wrong before accusing him. In some sense, his anger is justified because you then went straight to accusing thinking he was wrong and then you asked OTHER people to call the admissions officers rather than yourself. You should have at lease called to ensure he was right or wrong

Note: Names are in bold so further confusion avoided because some of us read too fast.

cdz512

Like I told to SOPHIA, please read more carefully. I wasn’t accusing/attackng EMO at all. If you reread the that part of the thread, you will notice I was countering SOPHIA’s accusations of EMO.

Ok, so my second post on this thread isn’t very CLEARLY directed at SOPHIA, but if you read more carefully and noticed that I posted right after SOPHIA, it was obvious that I wasn’t attacking EMO.

On a more depressing note, I’m hoping Duke tells us soon. At this point, I just want to know.

Case study in all that is wrong with the internet*. Anonymous posters raising the ire of anonymous responders, based on unverifiable information which conflicts with other unverifiable information from some other posting creatd by yet another anonymous poster. Why the cripe do any of us come here at all?

*pr0n excluded

bayezid
Your reply was actually quite difficult to determine at who. Since the first sentence was “You accused someone of lying” and I immediately thought of Emo’s post because he used aggressive language.
your second paragraph was actually quite ambiguous so that’s what kinda made me think that you were still attacking Emo and was addressing other people that are posting.

Of course I was confused and I’m sorry about that and my post that.
But an advise (not to be in anyways harsh) is that you might want to check with the admission’s offices instead of continuing to be skeptic of others and saying that you haven’t done it. In other words, maybe you should call Duke admissions and ask them rather than continuing to say that “I haven’t called yet” or asking someone else to call.
This is in no ways to be mean or against you. And thus I do hope you get accepted into Duke as it is a great school and is actually my first choice.

This is the part of my post that cdz512 is talking about:

"You accused someone of lying (in quite aggressive language)without particularly thinking or caring to make sure your information was correct. While our responses may have been harsh, they were not worse than what you did.

All of us want to get into Duke. I don’t know if EMo is telling the truth, i havn’t called the admissions office yet, but I’m glad someone is providing some information, albeit not the kind i want to hear.

Cdz, how does the fact that my first sentence is “you accused someone of lying” make you think of aggressive language? In my mind, accusing someone of lying makes me think of false language. And no where did I accuse Emo of lying.
And while my second paragraph is a bit ambiguous, I don’t understand how you could think I am attacking Emo. I said (paraphrasing): I don’ know if what Emo is true, but at least he has information.
You advise me to call instead of continue to be skeptic of others, continue to say that I haven’t called admissions, and continue to ask someone else to call.
I haven’t been skeptical of anyone and haven’t asked anyone to call. And only once did I say I hadn’t called them.
Good luck to you too.

i just called, and the lady told me that they’re not taking anyone off the engineering waitlist, and they’re not totally done with trinity, but they’re admitting a very very small number of people off the trinitiy waitlist

=( i was on engineering waitlist. haha, oh well.

Yeah, I called them too and they said that a very small number of students would be admitted. When I said what they meant very small, she said it would be around 40 or so. I am not sure what kind of access she had to the actual data but its probably a raw estimate.

Dang.
I guess I’m going to berkeley . . .
Anyone know when exactly and how we get notified?

I’m still on the waitlist. It’d be nice to be accepted, but it looks like I won’t be. Oh well, I’m going to a great college anyway :P

Was it a mistake to tell my adcom in my letter that I’d be happy with my current college, but I’d be happier with Duke. (Then went on to say that I’d enroll if accepted)??

I got a call on may 20th about my considering an offer from waitling list;
I said yes. yesterday I got an email for financial aid information.

I am waiting for official documents from mail.

For what it’s worth, my S came off the wait list at the end of April and turned them down 5 days later. Somehow, I guess, when he sent them the email saying he wasn’t going to attend, it didn’t get to whomever it needed to (even though the Regional person responded to it). As a result, he got another email a couple of days ago and amazingly they still thought they were waiting on his decision. They mentioned that he needed to decide asap so that they could offer his spot to someone else if he wasn’t accepting. So I guess they are still taking more people as others decide not to attend.

How are things going guys? Any news?
