Waitlisted People Please Read!

When I called today, they said that the waitlist was still active. i do not think that anyone has a good chance of being admitted but it is not over yet, so we have to all wait.

Damn :</p>

Where have you all accepted spots at for now?

i am currently accepted at UCSD and UCLA.

there’s the “summer melt” where they should take one more wave of people in mid-summer

I am a incoming freshman that is thinking of deferring for a year…very likely to do a gap year…and take some time off to go volunteering…but I probably won’t defer my admissions until 2 weeks later when I know if I get into the program…

you guys still have hope!! :)

so why hasn’t duke contacted its waitlistees yet? i don’t even know if i’m still active or not… should i contact them and ask?

I got into UCSD, UCLA, UC Berkeley, Boston College, etc. I paid my deposit to BC already but got a call from Duke today saying I got in!! (But then again I’m a transfer student…so I had like no chances of getting in, and the deadline for BC was June 1st).

:D Really excited!

^ Congratulations missyujin, I am really glad that there are actually people still taken off the wait list. I wonder if the waitlist is the same for transfer and regular students. I wanted to call them today and ask whether the list was still active but I forgot to call, now im thinking it is active. ughhh, I can imagine how excited you were when you heard that they were calling from Duke : -)

^i think this is just for transfer students. i am surprised they haven’t notified anyone of the waitlist status for freshmen…

^yeah I know, they should have at least sent some updates, this is all quite interesting.

Thank you :)

The lady said that they were taking students off the waitlist…I don’t think she specified transfer or freshman. I’m guessing it would be the same list?

I wasn’t scared to open the mailbox today  I was scared of getting a note saying I didn’t get in ;P

uh…why would they be the same list?
Transfers are entering as either sophomores or juniors…
We are entering as…well…freshmen =.=“”

I suppose that makes sense.
But transfer decisions are only made after the freshman students say yay or nay. The number of transfer acceptances, therefore, is closely related to the number of freshmans accepted.

Did no one else hear from the waitlist? 0_0

sigh.
i just hope they tell us soon! (:

freshmen acceptances dont effect transfers, i believe. it’s simply the number of spots that open after freshman year… ie people drop, transfer, or something weird.

it’s weird how duke doesn’t even give us the option of still remaining on their summer waitlist or not. kind of bad, actually.

^I called their admissions office and the person there said that the waitlist acceptances were “pretty much complete.” He said that they would probably accept only “one or two students” who he said were athletes or something. He said we should shortly receive some kind of notification of being released from the wait list. I guess it is over guys…

[Admission yield steady in recession - News](http://media.www.dukechronicle.com/media/storage/paper884/news/2009/06/11/News/Admission.Yield.Steady.In.Recession-3747339.shtml)

It talks about the waitlist, so I thought you guys might be interested.

I’m supposing those “one or two students” are for freshmans only? I’m a lot of things, but not an athelete…

Good luck everyone the more the merrier!!!

and in terms of the athletes admission, I take that to mean taking athletes from other schools that cut their athletic programs. For example I know of a couple kids for baseball and track who were going to go to solid Division I programs, only to have the funding cut either due to the recession or Title IX (males and females get equal funding for athletics). This leads me to believe that they are keeping a few spots open just in case some star or at least contributing player gets screwed and has their program cut so comes to Duke (programs ik of are Vermont and Quinnipiac). If this is true, then spots will be open if no athletes run into this problem.

Regardless I wish everyone the best of luck! GO DUKE!!!
