Waitlisted people

Does anyone know when waitlisted people hear back? I got into Penn State Smeal and I submitted my deposit but if Northeastern accepts me, I might go here.

Some people have already been offered spots off waiting list. Saw it on a different thread. Doesn’t mean there won’t be more.

@notakid

Are those the only people they are accepting or will there be more?

They sent out a wave of waitlist acceptances on April 26th presumably due to coming in under their expected amount positive replies at that time. Their policy is that you will know by June 1 if you get in, so you should expect to hear anytime between now and then if you are offered a spot.

Something you should note is that if they offer you a spot, you are expected to decide within a very short amount of time (usually about 2 days) whether or not you are “interested” in taking a spot for admission. By expressing “interest” they expect that you will enroll.

In response to your last post, there are a couple of possibilities. Either they sent out that wave of acceptances on the 26th and still came in low in enrollment, or they came in even or above what they want for the entering class. In the first scenario, they will send out more acceptances to waitlisted applicants. In the second scenario, they are satisfied with the entering class and will no longer be taking anyone off of the waitlist. There is really no way to know, only time will tell.

You’re probably very anxious right now to know whether or not you got in. It might not be a bad idea to send off an email or make a phone call expressing your continued interest in NU even at this point in time. This can possibly give you a better chance at getting off of the list if they still need people. I know it sucks just sitting back and waiting, but just try not to think about it.

@VMadden

Thank you for the sincere response. I did e-mail them about how even though I paid my deposit for Penn State, I’m still waiting to hear back on positive feedback from NEU. I hope they take my e-mail into consideration and I hope waitlist people, like me, still have a chance.

I just got accepted off the waitlist the other day. At first, I emailed them and they said that the result won’t come out until June 1st. I was so shocked and excited at the same time because it was unbelievable. I think that they devide into 2 sections of releasing the result for the waitlist maybe because they don’t have the number of undergrads they expected. And after the deposit deadline on May 1st, they will start to release the rest. At least that’s what I think. :)

@vongockieuduyen

May i know your SAT score/GPA? And are you planning to attend NEU?

Hey guys, do you guys think it’s a good idea to e-mail them that I would do anything to go to this school?

I would avoid sounding unprofessional in anything that you send to them. If you’re sending them an email try to play up the positives about yourself. If your grades have gone up since they last saw them, let them know. If you done anything exceptional that would make them want you as a student, let them know that too. Don’t send an email just to send an email, that’s not what they want from you. You already sent an email so don’t go crazy sending emails everyday. Remember that you are dealing with regular people, so you should display a likable persona in your interactions with them.

@VMadden

Oh, alright. I just want to make one more short e-mail to show them my huge interest. Should i tell them how I may not be their strongest applicant on the waitlist but I know I’m one of the most motivated applicants on your waitlist who is planning to attend? And also, I joined the Varsity Tennis team this year so maybe i’ll that into the e-mail as well as how I researched the professors in CBA and they came into my liking?

If you’re not one of the strongest on the wait list, it’s not going to help you to mention it. Just reinforces the idea. Only my impression, of course.

Well, I feel like it’s obvious that I’m not the strongest which is why I was waitlist, but I sent them that message because of how motivated I am to attend to the university. I also told them I see myself best fitting in this university than any school I’ve applied to/accepted to as well as mentioning new credentials such as President of an activity/Varsity Tennis team.

Sounds like you’re doing the right things. I hope you get in man, you sound like you really want it. Best of luck

omg! when will they start taking people off the waitlist again?

You serious? Read the thread above… No one knows because there is no way to know until they send them.

Hey,
I got weight listed too, although i was offered a place around the 26th last month. I went to the accepted student tour the other day and my parents asked how it worked to one of the admissions reps. they said that in past years they’ve offered places to around 20-200 people off the weightiest depending on how many people are needed, but bearing in mind the weightiest can be around 700-1500 so the chances of getting off it are quite slim. this is just what the guy told us, but regarding when you know or not after the first wave of offers they send out to the weight listed people for each person who declines it they will have a list of people in ranking order who they will choose from and as soon as one person drops out they will send a letter of confirmation offering you a place if your name was next on the list. the reason why they say you’ll know by June is so that it gives all the university time to try and get as many people on bord so either you’ll get a letter of acceptance before june, or come june i guess the weightiest will be abandoned.
I have no Idear what sort of a student you are (gpa/sat/extra stuff), but immediately after i was weight listed, literally minutes after i sent a letter just stating that Northeastern was my top choice and i would like to state how much i liked their university (you know, faculty, reputation etc.), but without trying to suck up to them too bad. But something seemed to work for me! I hope it all works out for you :slight_smile:

Just remember this year they had around 36,000 applicants so the best chance of getting a place as so many of those people will be well qualified to take a place at Northeastern. you need to just keep your name on their minds, so if you havent send an e-mail yet I’d advise you do, or ring up someone from the admissions office don’t bother with high up people like the dean because they will just be too busy to get a not from a person saying they like the university. just make sure your not too pushy about it and hopefully when your in their mind more, your application will probably have a greater thought put into it rather than just a name on the application.

@UKeepers

Do you have any idea when the 2nd wave of decisions for waitlisted people are coming through? And based on what you said, does that mean that they won’t accept as many people anymore?

@studied4sat

As I said as soon as one person is offered a place off the weightlist, if they then decline that offer then another offer will be sent out to the next person on the top of the list. sorry if It didn’t make much sense before!
and they will keep doing that until they’ve got the 2800 people they say they will take on for this incoming class. so don’t worry yet give a a month or so, but if you haven’t received and offer a week or so before the June deadline I’d begin to re-asses what you want to be doing. to be honest i took the weightlist as practically being declined, i planned out what i was going to do for the next year had everything lined up and then i got the e-mail, so it’s probably best to set a reminder on your phone and just try and forget about it until it gets close to june!
Oh and about the last thing, i think once they’ve got all the people they need then they will probably send a e-mail out to all the weight listed people who didn’t make it letting them know.

@ UKpeers
Thank you so much for the info.
Well, I e-mailed them 3 times, called them once, and left one voice mail.

Should I try calling them one more time tomorrow? Or is this enough to show them my interest?
