I have a general question:
Why would anyone not accept a spot on a school's waitlist? Is it simply bcuz of the fee you have to pay (which is very miniscule compared to the chance of being accepted)?

Since when do you pay a fee to be on a waitlist?

Well, at many schools a response as to whether one has been accepted isn't heard until June. At that point, it's likely one would rather just be done with the college process.

Also, at SOME schools, financial aid money could have run out.

For some, the 500$ deposit at another school could be a financial strain.

Perhaps one didn't even like the school at which he was waitlisted.

And I'm sure there's other reasons.

I for one, don't intend to stay on any waitlists. I've been accepted everywhere so far, and haven't gotten on any waitlists. I love one school I've been accepted to, and don't feel like dealing with college stuff after May 1st. As such, if waitlisted anywhere, I have that one school at which I'd be VERY happy (perhaps moreso than at any other school on my list :-))

Perhaps my situation is atypical, but I'm sure others have had similar experiences.

o sorry im not familiar with the process

hmm... i guess then if you take yourself off the waitlist you probably are set on which college you want to go to..

Yea, if the waitlisted school was your 1st choice, by all means, STAY ON IT. It can't possibly hurt, although in most situations, admits off a waitlist are few and far between.
